fireworks in Hongkong this year?

Anyone know whether there will be fireworks in Hong Kong this year in celebration of the new Year. We have booked a harbor view room at the HK Shangrila hotel and were wondering what is happening this year in Hong Kong for the new year?

There is no major fireworks in Hong Kong for New Year. There's one on the 2nd night of the CHINESE New Year, however.

The nightly light show at 8pm should still be on, but nothing special for New Year in terms of fireworks.

The nightly light show is best viewed from Tsimshatsui, as the laser is projected from the top of the highrise buildings on Hong Kong Island.

Are you staying at the Island Shangri-La on HK Island or the Kowloon Shangri-La? Because if it's the Kowloon one, you can see the light show from your room.

On New Year's Eve, the biggest crowd will be at the promenade in Tsimshatsui, in front of the InterContinental; at Times Square in Causeway Bay; and at Lan Kwai Fong.

Most hotel restaurants will have New Year's Eve specials, which cost a lot. Worse, you can't order from the regular menus at many of them. So, first decide if you want to spend the big bucks at a hotel party or not.
