Face in Bangkok

Face sounds absolutely wonderful! And I love the website. I can't seem to find hours or days of operation on the site for the restaurants. Are both restaurants open for lunch?

And has anyone tried the spa? The treatments sound fabulous and the prices are very reasonable.

I think MassBob says that the Indian restaurant is not open for lunch, but the Thai one is. I can't verify that. But, I WAS just there for dinner about a week ago, and it was a very special treat!!! I loved the place!! (it's one of those hidden treasures... but not for long!!!)

I think the spa would be wonderful! Once you see the place, you'll see why I say that.

Carol, thanks for the info, I was hoping you'd respond! The photos on the website (and a quick read of the menu) just reinforced my wish to add it to my "must" list after reading your review. My trip is in November, and of course, I'll report back if we try the spa (seems likely at this point.)

That's great! I have not seen their web site but will have to take a look. They do have other locations, in London and China (Shanghai, I think). Great place! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

jakarta is one of the other locations...

carol is correct...the thai is open for lunch and dinner and the indian is only open for dinner....normal bkk hours...

the spa appeared to be quite small, but maybe we did not see all of it...the place is really a small compound...we also did not see the bakery---how the hell did i miss that!!!???

i think you will like it kathie...we liked the indian better than the thai...our pork dish at the thai was all fat which was disappointing...

the place is beautiful...!!

Gloria, it's www.facebars.com

The other locations are Jakarta and Shanghai. Carol, I didn't see anything about a London location, perhaps it's new...

Bob, the website makes it look big with all the different buildings. And while I'm not especially fond of baked goods, the chocolate truffles look yummy. And good chocolate is hard to come by in Asia.

Oops - one more question - How far is it from the skytrain stop? Their map makes it look very close, but I know those maps can be deceiving.

it was down the soi quite a ways...we were in a taxi so i sort of forget...

take a taxi from sheraton is the best bet...they will get you a taxi as you leave ...a boy goes off on a bicycle or a motorbike and comes back with a taxi...

karen says she remembers it as being down the soi quite a ways...is emporium at the end of the street?? i sort of forget and i don't have a map handy...

The London idea came from framed photos in the ladies' room at Face. I think it is another Indian restaurant in London (the name starts with Z I think).

Jetlag has me up very early this morning...

I also loved the look of Face from the website and it has made it on to my BKK restaurant. Now, not to sound like a lush (and a cheap lush), but I took a look at the cocktail menu and the drinks were more expensive than I would have thought for BKK, like $8. Now, I am used to paying that and more in NYC for cocktails, but I was hoping BKK would be cheaper I know wine can be pricey in BKK but what can I typically expect to pay for a cocktail?

Liquor in general is expensvie in thai standards -- more like US prices.

Thanks for the website, Kathie. It looks stunning. The thai menu seems a bit uninteresting but I'll probably give it a try anyway. Unfortunately my friend doesn't like Indian food or I'd do that.

There was a Face Bar and La Na Thai restaurant in London at Lombard Street in Battersea/Clapham (don't think they had the Indian there though) that was run by the same people or under the same banner at least.

It has now changed hands and name and is called Thai on the River.

Thatks to everyone for the info. This board is such a wealth of information!

Bob, thanks for the info on location. I always suspect that places are farther from the skytrain than they look on those little maps!

Cruisin, if you think liquor is expensive, you should see the price of wine! (Another reason to stay on Club floors - free drinks in the evening!)

Gloria, I agree that the Indian menu looks more interesting.

And Bella, your info explains the confusion about where they have branches.

This seems like the perfect place to get a thai massage and then have dinner. It has made it onto the list of MUSTS for our honeymoon! We will be able to kill two birds with one stone because I have decided that we have to get massages every day!

The indian menu does look better than the thai. FH is scared of indian food because it never sits well with him, but maybe I can convince him. He is not a duck eater, so I am already working on him to have the Peking Duck at the Oriental...

Kuranosuke, most places will allow guests in the club room, but at a price.
