Electric Appliances

I have looked on the internet to see what sort of adaptor we will need to plug in my wifes hair drier etc in our hotels.

It comes up with three different types which is not helpfull.

We are staying in 4 star hotels, will they provide us with adaptors if we ask at reception.

John-4 star hotels will provide adaptors. Also, they will probably also provide a hair dryer, so your wife probably does not have to lug one. My wife never does. If you elect not to bring one and the hotel does not provide, you can buy one cheaply.

When we were in Japan a year and a half ago, all hotels had American 2 prong tyoe plugs and electricity is the same as the U.S. If you are coming from the U.S., you will have no problem. If coming from somewhere else, American plug adaptors should work.

Okay, I realize you didn't say where you were going and there was a Japan post right above yours so I mistakenly thought you were going there. Sorry.

I haven't carried a hairdryer to Asia since my first trip there over 20 years ago. Every hotel I've stayed in has provided a hairdryer. If you have other electronics you nedd to plug in, your hotel will have an adaptor.

Don't bring a hair dryer...takes up luggage space and the only place I've stayed in the last 10 years that hasn't had one is elephant camp - and believe me, a hair dryer wouldn't have helped make the mahout suits and hat head more glamourous For other things, like cameras, a small adapter set is easy to carry, but like the others, I've found the hotel has adaptors available for guests to use.

john44, you haven't said where you're travelling to - but the other posters' advice is good. Whatever, don't try to use a UK device with an American-type 110V power supply unless it's dual voltage.
