Edogin, Matsukan, Ukai Toriyama, Sushizanmai Part 1

I went to all four of these restaurants with my cousin s except he didn?t go to edogin, and he agrees with my opinions of these restaurants. And that?s what they are, my opinions.

Edogin

Located in tsukiji close to the delivery area where the 18 wheelers arrive to deliver their products. Interior was not very large, plain and simple, lots of salaryman(a common term to describe the ordinary working male) were there. While I normally sit at the sushi bar, I decided to try their special set course, which consisted of mushroom-crab roe appetizer, scallops, tai(red snapper), katsuo(tuna) amaebi(sweet shrimp), ika(squid), chu-toro(fatty tuna) sashimi served on a bed of fresh ogo(seaweed), and turnips, chawanmushi(egg custard filled with ginko beans and chicken), a half dozen nigiri sushi, and a clear asari(clam) soup to complete the meal. The food was excellent and good value. Cost was 4000Y.

Matsukan

Located in the azabu area(posh area), it is small, with about 11 seats on the sushi bar, and three tables. There is nothing special about this sushi bar. We went there around 730pm and the selections we limited. The sushi was good, but not significantly to warrant the rather high price. We had an assortment of sushi and it cost us 8000Y apiece. I believe Yvette said it was pricey, and it was indeed. However, the owner, kobayashi kazuhiko, is very personable, and we enjoyed talking to him as he made our sushi.(this was a first for me, as most sushi chefs are stoic and rather stern, like they have too much starch in their underwear). He even gave us home made takuan(pickled turnip) which was excellent, and a bowl of delicious miso soup. That hit the spot on a chilly autumn night. While I would go to edogin again, once was enough for me here.

Simply typing edogin in the seach box brings up all 3 posts whenever you want them.

Topping is temporary.
