We are intending to be in Bangkok January 2006 for 4 nights and can have a club room at either of these Hotels for $200, which one?

i have looked at the sheraton and the rooms are fabulous....it also has a perfect location with skytrain entrance right there as well...

dusit thani is an older hotel but also lux--great restaurants...its location is not all that great really---not bad just not as good as sheraton...skytrain is a ways....subway may be near but i can't just remember, but it does not go anyplace tourists want to go anyways...

i'd go with sheraton...

the subway is about hmm 1 foot away from the dussit and the skytrain is 2 small blocks down, but at night it gets a bit crowded on silom so may take a couple of minuts too get to skytrain.

We stayed at The Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit in December 2004. This was our hotel of choice because our friends live nearby and wanted us to be close to them to minimize the travel and avoid traffic as much as possible. Normally I am not a Sheraton fan and would have preferred to stay the The Pen.

The hotel is lovely. All beige and brown marble. The female staff are all clad in gorgeous traditional Thai dress, exquisite gold silk brocade long skirts and sheongsam tops with gold jeweled belts. All staff "wai" and greet you "sawadee ka/krap" whenever they see you and they cannot do enough for you. Our suite overlooked the pool and the Sala. It had a separate living room, one and a half baths, and a very large bedroom with a walk-in closet; we were happy. The hotel had many restaurants and lounges as well as a top notch Thai spa. And yes, it was very well located to our friend's condo.

The pool is a fabulous oasis and it's hard to believe it's in the middle of this city. The service at the Sala restaurant was not great but we learned to ignore it in favour of the setting and good food.

Agree with rhk - Dusit's location is not as good anymore. Grande is newer and smarter hotel at the moment - pool is also very nice, although Plaza Athenee and Nai Lert Park are nicer. I would go for Grande.

subway doesn't really go anyplace tourists want to go

We stayed at the Dusit Thani last year and had to be evacuated due to a flood on the floor above us. They did not do much to accomodate us except find us another room. It was a convenient walk to pat pong (sp?) night market and a short walk to the skywalk. The restuarants at the hotel were great. Once was enough to stay there. I will seek a more luxurious hotel on our next trip planned for Feb.
