Deogarh vs Rohetgarh, Rajasthan

My trip to Rajasthan is coming together and we'll be staying at both Deogarh and Rohetgarh ... is it worth staying at both of these properties or are they very similar?

Rates at Deogarh are now twice that of Rohetgarh...is it twice the hotel? If you've stayed in both or either hotel could you share something of your experience. If we were to add a day at either which would you choose and why?

Many thanks!

Hmm, well I stayed at Rohetgarh in Feb. this year and really enjoyed it, it's small and friendly and the owner actually drives guests around the area (for a fee of course) and seems like a regular kind of down to earth guy. On looking at Deogarh, it looks very much more imposing and grand, and further away from Jodhpur. I would say that they would be different experiences, so stay in both if you can, but maybe stay at Rohetgarh first, in case Deogarh is so fantastic nothing else lives up to it! If you are going to both Jodhpur and Udaipur, then it seems to be in the middle, but if you are only going to Jodhpur, then maybe stay at Rohetgarh as it is only about 40 kms away. Hope you've booked though as on other threads sounds as though the tourist industry has really picked up in India and Rohetgarh was booked out for one period. Wouldn't it be lovely to have the time and money to stay in each and every heritage hotel in India??
We also stayed at the Umaid Bhavan in Jodhpur a few years back, magnificent, but very definitely not down to earth.

Both are heritage properties but Deogarh is far more grand and is a 350 year old fort converted into a hotel.

It is difficult to comment on the rates, but I will wait for your comments after you have stayed at both the places!

Thanks so much for both of your comments. I have booked both properties and we'll be at each for two nights. Instead of a third night at Deogarh I think we'll try one of the tents at Devi Garh.

I'm excitied about the family run hotels in Rajasthan. We've booked 3 nights at Killa Bhawan in Jaiselmer, 2 nights at JasVilas in Jaipur and 3 nights at Kanakwara in Udaipur.

Thanks to both of you, not just for your replies here, but for all of the other posts you have made which have been very helpful.

I'm still trying to sort out one section of the itinerary but I think I'd better start a new post for that!
