i am spending 4 days in delhi and i would be grateful for some advice.firstly,could anyone recommend any decent midpriced hotels in delhi?secondly,do any of the top hotels in delhi do reduced price hotelrooms promotions for a weekend as in the USA?thirdly as my flight arrives very early in the morning,is there a lounge at delhi international where incoming passengers can rest before finding a hotel in the morning or will i have to vacate the airport as soon as possible?-i dont relish taking a taxiride at 2 in the morning in any city unknown to me

Jay, I do know that there are lounges at the Delhi Airport for guests of the luxury hotels such as the Taj or Oberoi. I never saw any other lounges. I stayed at the Taj, but didn't use the lounge because I left the airport right away. I had a driver who met me at about 11:00 PM. I personally feel that it is unwise to travel to Delhi without a hotel reservation. I also would never stay in a hotel that was not in the top tier. Sorry I can't be of more help. DM

Hi Jay <BR>I too will arrive in Delhi in the early hours of the morning so I am planning to stay at one of the airport hotels for the rest of that night.I will feel much happier about going on into delhi in the daylight. My guidebook recommends going to the pre-paid taxi booth just outside the baggage collection area so that you don't need to haggle with the driver. Insist that you have a hotel reservation too as the driver always knows a 'better deal' !!

hi there, <BR> <BR>there is a resting area outside the depart terminal just across the street. You need a valid depart ticket for that day or have to pay a little fee. But this lounge is like all public things in India are - noisy and dirty. <BR>I think it would be the better decision to take, as above said, a prepaid taxi and go to Your hotel. There You will find a shower and a bed - heaven after a long flight. And even, in the night the first ride to town will be more pleasant without beggars ... <BR>For my experience hotels did not reduce price for weekends, but the price the tell You is about 30 - 70 percent to high. You have to bargain. <BR>I dont know the name of my hotel by now, it was a little out of the center (by Rikscha about 1 US $ to Connect Place). Arriving 2 in the morning without pick-up and prebooked hotel. Good Luck! <BR>My seious advise is that you contact a travel agency and book hotel and pickup, <BR>the touts and taxidrivers will drive you mad otherwise. Me and wife travelled around India this summer. We soon found out that hotels, tours etc that we booked from home were much cheaper than when we did it by ourselves. Hotels moore than halfprice.And we had no problems with our vouchers. Use a well-known agency (we used Indo-Asia, very good) Donīt trust the ones who answered your question here = scam! <BR>Yes there are reduced week-end prices in India BUT, only for Indian citizens!!! <BR>Sorry but India is very different than other countries in the east. <BR>Finally the fortīs etc in Delhi really is not much to see. Suggest you take a train to Agra and visit the Taj Mahal instead. Entry 20USD, but itīs one of the most beautiful buildings I ever seen. <BR>Be careful! <BR>

I don't recommend Meg's plan to book an airport hotel - all are down the road a ways, and you might as well go straight to your 4 day hotel. Rates will be higher if you wait until you arrive. Business is very slow right now, so deals should be available through overseas agents. Definitely arrange to be met at the airport, but look out for the con artists. Don't go with them unless they have your name and the hotel written down already.

I agree...book a hotel with transfers and go straight to your hotel. Go ahead and book b4 from one of the agents in the net. They will get you a good deal. As mentioned above, Indo Asia is a good company though i am not sure of the other reply fm the agent here. Going to India in Jan and hv booked thru another agent. There ARE NO lounges except for the Taj and Oberoi visitors. But there is a lot of space on the floor if you want to wait. You are going to have a culture shock arriving with your ideas. Arriving at 2 or 3 am. is not at all exceptional in Delhi, or flying away at that time. Listen to our advice.

Hi Jay<BR>Same reply as all others. Prebook your hotel and cab or at the very least take the prepaid airport taxi. Chances are you could share the ride with a fellow traveler as Delhi airport is busy even at that time of day. <BR>Bibi
