I hope you'll be able to communicate with your daughter soon. I just came to the Asia board to read the threads about the earthquake, but I know next to nothing about Thailand. However, here's the web page of the dive center, which includes contact info (phone, e-mail, etc.). http://www.seadragondivecenter.com/ Your country's embassy in Thailand may also be able to give you some information.

This was posted in the Phuket Gazette:
People concerned for the welfare of friends and relatives believed to be on or near the coast when the wave hit can call the emergency rescue center at Tel: 076-214492 or 01-6432755. For calls from outside Thailand, the numbers are Tel: 66 76-214492 or Tel: 66 1 643 2755. Local police stations may also be able to help. They can be reached by dialling 191 and asking for the district police station for the area concerned.
If calling from outside Thailand, the number for Phuket Provincial Police Headquarters is Tel: 66 76-212046. Phuket Tourist Police may be reached at Tel: 66 76-355015, if dialing from outside the Kingdom.
Hope this helps. Our thoughts and prayers are with you

csfactor, have faith that your daughter will get in touch. I saw several pictures on msn where young people were being treated for minor injuries and may not be able to get to a phone or computer.
My son emailed me this morning from Koh Pha-Ngan to say he was safe. I know what you must be going through, and my prayers are that you will hear from your daughter soon. Please let us know as many mothers will be worrying with you.

Brilliant. Excellent news. It has been very difficult communicationg but today phones have been relatively easy.
Thai Airways plus Bangkok Air are adding a large number of flights and those flights they say will go well into the night. Local news has shown that anyone needing medical attention is getting it and it seems to be 'free', also anyone injured at all is being taken to Bangkok 'free' also a lot of free food/water etc is being distributed and it appears that donations of food/water etc etc are flowing in well, the Thai Air Force is shutting to/from the region. 25 foreign countries have set up temporary consul locations to handle all they can including replacing lost documents. Naturally this has been a horrifying tragedy in Thailand but fortunately they have sufficient medical supplies and as said food/water etc seems to be flowing fast. It looks like sadly a different story in Sri Lanka especially.
Anyway so glad your daughter is fine and well.

May all who have family and friends in Thailand also hear good news soon.
Our travel group has now raised $24,000 just from the 26 that were to travel in less than 3 weeks to Thailand and Malaysia.
One couple, who was going to cancel because of insurgents has pledged $15,000 additional. We know have spoken with the Red Cross to insure it gets into the "right" hands. We will likely have $50,000. The locals need it far more than we needed a vacation.
We will go but in Jan.2006 for they need the tourism dollars.
Do what you can!!
I am NOT collecting from anyone other than our group and some close friends.Find a way to do what you can and pray that disease in Sri Lanka does not kill 1000's more in the weeks ahead.
I am unclear what supplies the US has sent. Yes, they need troops but food, water and building supplies will be needed in the next month. I have not read 1 report of such humanitarian efforts by our government.Maybe some of you can PUSH.
We have spent 150 trillon dollars in Iraq as of year-end.$100 million in supplies is needed now in that region.Call, email or fax your government officials. They are home now in your states-they are easier to reach than when they are in D.C.TRY.

I also donated through the Red Cross today, not nearly as much as StanKase's group, but as much as I could today. I'm hoping to send more after paying the bills this month. I hope everyone else will also send whatever they can, even if it's only $10, it will all add up.

Not at all surprised to find you on this board, LAFadeAway. I was able to contribute through my church and its UMCOR program--United Methodist Committee on Relief. They will have many people in the area helping by now. All of us have a way to help if there is a will. And you are right--most of us can't do much on our own, but all of us together can provide much relief.

My husbands company has a branch in Colombo and not one local person working there does not have a family member affected by the tragedy. 7% of a country's population left homeless. They are all contributing a months salary. Co not matching that amount but putting in quite a bit. The ocean is composed of little drops such as these...

Hi Shillmac! Imagine running into you here! I've been hanging around the Asia forum a bit lately, since I plan to go to S.E. Asia after I finish grad school in about a year. This whole disaster is so devistating, it's really hard for people to grasp the enormity of the situation. I just really hope that everyone sends whatever they can. Take care!
