Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai - driver/travel recommendations?

Hello all,

Following some excellent advice from people here we decided to spend some time up north. We're travelling from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai as part of this trip and I'm thinking ahead about drivers - does anyone have any recommendations/advice? Thanks in advance!

I recently used a great person and he speaks good English. His name is Chaiya, based out of Chiang Mai and his info is [email protected] an phone 081-9989461. Tell him that Gale Carson recommended him.

unfortunately they are few and far between in the CR area....often you have to rely on drivers supplied at higher costs from your hotel.....

Is the situation the same traveling in the opposite direction instead?

There are lots of drivers in CM. Many are willing to drive you to the Golden Triangle.

We had the Anantara recommend a driver for us. While the price was higher than for a driver in say, Bangkok or Chiang Mai, drivers are more expensive in that area. We thought the price charged was fair.
