If I remember correctly, Ponheary's brother is also a guide. If you don't mind staying in a simple guess house, I believe they operate such a place. I would hire Ponheary or her brother and stay in their guess house because I know my money will be put in good use.

My two cents: Angkor Wat is a ZOO at sunrise. But then it's suddenly almost deserted soon as the sun is up in the sky, everyone packs up their tripods and heads to breakfast. This is the BEST TIME to be in Angkor Wat proper, in the hour after sunrise. Then Banteay Srei is a ZOO at about 9 am. Go there at the end of the day if you can; it's magical in the last couple hours of daylight. They've almost wrecked Ta Phnom; go to Preah Khan or Ta Nei if you're looking for that "jungle temple" feeling.

Having Angkor Wat to yourselves right after sunrise is magical. We were able to do an hour of walking meditation in the temple before people started arriving.

Please elaborate on this comment. I don't want to hear every little detail about the temple. Or, are you referring to her pace for walking? I'm not a slow walker, just felt that the comment by the other guide was off. His exact comment......"you need to walk fast and do not spend time to take a lot of photos".

I am up for a 12 hour sightseeing day and don't mind an early start at 5 am and finish touring at 5 pm. of course, I will take a lunch break and I understand that the driver and guide eat their main meal at lunchtime.

I have read conflicting information that the third level in Angkor is closed until 9 am and that Bnteay Seri closes at 3 pm. This is all very confusing at I don't know exactly how to set up my sightseeing schedule.

Re, the guide and driver's lunches. I always offer to pay but they will usually have a deal with the restaurant where they get paid for bringing a tourist.

We also recommend PonHeary both as a guide and for her charity. Unless it has changed, Tonle Sap has the most poor conditions we have ever seen and that includes India. We were there in late December and the lake was low. The homes did not have sewage systems so the lake was quite unpleasant. The road to the boat dock was covered with garbage and worse. While we realize that Cambodia is not Switzerland, being driven around to look at impoverished people is .... It did get us to make donations to PonHeary's charity so some good came out of it.
