Boston GTG* 2008
BOSTON GTG, 2008
Its that time again when we need to get a count
as to who is coming and what your interests
might be.
The GTG will be held Saturday October 11,
2009 at the Le Meridien Hotel (formerly
the Hotel @ MIT); 20 Sidney Street;
Cambridge, MA.
We will gather at about 11AM in the rear of
the restaurant. It was called Sidney’s Grill.
Lunch will be served about 1PM. The cost
of the lunch will be $22.00 per person, all inclusive, except
for alcohol drinks and extras you might order.
We will host a dinner the nite before for anyone
who wishes to attend. The menu will be Italian
and we expect to dine at Bistro 5 in West Medford.
This is yet to be confirmed however. This is subject
to change however. We need to test it first.
On Saturday nite, Andy has again reserved the
Similan Thai Restaurant on First Street, Cambridge.
We will gather there at 7PM. We will split the bill
as we have done in the past.
Today I request that each of you indicate to me
here or via e-mail ([email protected]) your
intentions. I would need to know how many people
will attend EACH of the 3 meals. How many for lunch,
how many for dinner Friday, and how many for dinner
Saturday.???? Also include your screen name on fodors,
your full name, and your email address.
Thanks and we look forward to seeing you again
or for the first time.

We are fittingly replying from the Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa (otherwise known as Bob's hotel!) where the city is excitedly gearing up for the Queen's Birthday/Mothers' Day on Tuesday.
We went to the Suan Pakkard Palace yesterday and absolutely loved it. Heading out to the weekend market after writing this message. We are spending Monday with one of Tong's people -- going to the fishing village.
Oh, yes, the rsvp...We would love to come to the lunch in Cambridge. Memories of our month in Vietnam followed by a week in Luang Prabang and a week in Bangkok should be fresh in our minds at that point; my husband will have made an additional trip to China in September and my daughter will have shared her stories with us of living in Beijing during the Olympics.
We look forward to good company and conversation -- can't wait to hear about everyone's trips and plans for future travel.
Best,
Maryalice & Arn

Bob, I sent you an email a little while ago that Eric and I do plan to attend both Friday and Saturday's festivities. I've booked the Summerfield Suites for both Friday and Saturday nights and we're hoping to actually SEE something of Boston this time around! Every year, we attend the GTG and say, next year we're going to go a day early and SEE Boston. How many times have we come to Cambridge and not even stepped foot in Boston proper? To make matters worse, our house (Where Eric lives) is in Albany which is less than 4 hours away! It's downright embarrassing!
Unfortunately we haven't been to Asia this year but we can tell you all about Buenos Aires. I hope we're not disqualified.
So, can you give us a head count and tell us who is coming this year?

Fodorites interested in going to the Boston GTG ought to check out the price of flights to/from Manchester NH (MHT) about 35 miles from Boston. There frequently are low fares to there, e.g. $240 all in roundtrip from LAX. Another option is Providence, RI (PVD).
I plan to be treating my pennant fever by attending the ALCS in Anaheim that weekend.

My ticket is into/out of Manchester rather than Boston. I prefer the smaller airport. Easy to navigate... easier than BOS IMO.
Carol
PS... first night is booked in Kittery, then on to Summerfield. Still not booked for last two nights in the northeast, but thinking that I might do White Mts instead of Marthas Vineyard. Still have time to make up my mind, I guess.

Laurie, please don't mind your Brother Counselor's suggestion that Buenos Aires is in Europe.
Just as I do not mind his ignoring Africa, where I spent some quality time last month. If anyone's interested, pics are at http://tinyurl.com/6lzt7l and a few videos are at http://vimeo.com/user553591/videos.

For the Billericans-note the use of the word only in the sentence about Europe. Laurie is well-known to have travelled to Asia many times. Consequently, the sentence clearly does not refer to her. Please try to pay closer attention in the future. I would hate to see you move to Needham.

One notices the word 'only,' and one is rendered dyspeptic by its location.
Cantabridgians would do well to note that peopole who "only travel [sic] to Europe" do nothing in their lives excepts go back and forth to Europe. Seems to this Billerican that it would be more common to find people who travel only to Europe -- that is, their lives include multiple activities, including traveling, and the traveling is exclusively to Europe.
But maybe I am being pedantic. And boring.
