BKK Hotel Confusion

I have changed my mind about 10times about where to stay for four nights in BKK - somewhere under $80.00AUD pernight, somewhere clean (no bedbugs), close to markets, MBK & Skytrain & a nice pool. Is that too much to ask??? have stayed at the Manhattan & First before (both a bit yukkie) so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

That's a tall order. Most of the places I usually suggest run around A$120 a night. Here's some ideas:

Unico Grande Silom (used to be Tower Inn).
Grand Diamond Pratunam - right in the Pratunam market area, but a bit of a hike to the Skytrain.
Somerset Lake Point - out on Sukhumvit but a short walk to Skytrain.

Close to MBK/Skytrain there is the Asia hotel and right beside it the Evergreen Place Apts.

Down by the river and short walk to the skytrain and river ferry are the Bossotel Inn and Sathorn Villa.

In the Silom area look at Elegance Suites, Narai, Silom Serene and Trinity Silom.

On Rachadapisek road close to the subway are Classic Place and Grand Mercury
Fortune Hotel

There are lots of cheap places on Sukhumvit including Dynasty Inn Grande (new in 2006), Regency Park, Swiss Park for a few.

You might want to look at Siam Heritage. It's near Patpong area, five minutes or so from the skytrain. The hotel is clean, it has a small but nice rooftop pool, and the rooms are pleasantly decorated in Northern Thailand style. I think we paid US$59 last fall, including taxes and breakfast.
