BKK GTG, Dec 26th

I'm off to Tokyo and Hong Kong day after tomorrow; looking forward to meeting or re-meeting folks at the BKK GTG at Face (5.30 for drinks, dinner afterwards for those who are interested).

Last I checked, Lyndie, IsisMnroe, Jim0884, and this typist were planning to show, with others possibly coming.

Don and Guenmai, have a fabulous time! I wish I could be at the BKK GTG but I won't be there until May. So far, Cruisinred will be there when I am so hopefully we will have a GTG and perhaps more from this forum will join us. On your Dec 26 shindig, have a drink for me. I'll have a toast for all of you on Dec 25 (but it will be the 26th in BKK).

I've got a reservation for a massage at the Face spa just before the gtg; the decadence of it all is immensely appealing.

Looking forward to re-seeing you, Guenmai.

Thanks Laurieco....and I'll have a drink...non-alchoholic one...smiles...for you. Kuranosuke is probably laughing hysterically now since he was teasing me about my pink-colored drink I had at Sabai Thai restaurant in Singapore. Yeah, it's too bad you won't be there when we are having our GTG. Oh, shucks. Take care. Happy Travels!

Hawaiiantraveler and Mrs. HT... Yes, I got out of jury duty...for now. I called and had to go into a little,"drama"...oh, well...it's L.A.,right? The drama capital of the world...so it wasn't difficult to get into character....Smiles...so I've been rescheduled to start calling in in February to see if I'll actually be put on a jury. We have to call in for 5 days to see if we've been assigned to a jury, but the person I talked to on the phone gave me a week where there's a holiday. Happy Travels!

Rizzuto....See you soon. Maybe I should have my facial massage in Bangkok. I just called my facialist a few hours ago to make an appointment for Thursday to have it done before I leave home...to survive the dry air in the plane. Maybe I'll have one in BK before returning home, too. Great idea! Happy Travels!

See you on the 26th of Dec at the Face.
We are in Bangkok right now and in a couple of days will be off to Myanmar for a week.

Will be nice to meet some more posters on this board and to see Guenmai again. We had a great time at the Honolulu GTG

carolsimpson, thanks for the info on the Patumwan apartment. it's in a great location and quiet, near the skytrain and in the shopping district.

Glad you like Patumwan House. Son will be staying there for 10 days starting on the 28th of Dec. I know you'll be gone by then, but will you be BACK at Patumwan House anytime during your trip?

Hi Carol,
We'll be back at the Patumwan House from 12/25/05 to 12/31/05 then head off to vietnam for almost a month, then back to bangkok in the last couple of days in January. Will you be in Bangkok the last part of January?

The Paragon shopping mall this afternoon had 3 very thin, tall young ladies in gold dresses and gold boots, dancing in the aisles, showing purses. The third floor had some type of martial arts choreography, and the Mac make-up dept had two make up artists paint the collar bone area of two models wearing black dresses as part of their dress. It was an afternoon delight.

You just might run into son at Patumwan House then. He'll be staying there from the 28th Dec to the 5th of Jan. Then he will transfer to an apt at Omni Tower for a one month rental.

If all goes as planned, I'll be in BKK, staying at Omni, from Jan 19 to Feb 2 (basically the last two weeks of January). Nothing booked yet, but these are the dates I'm looking at, roughly. Maybe we'll see you there!! I see that ticket prices for these dates have come done a bit on UAL.

I enjoyed your comments on Paragon. I can't wait to see the new mall.

BKK GTG Dec. 26, 2005
It was a pleasure to meet Rizzuto and meeting with Guenmai again.

Guenmai, your tips on shopping for authentic teak monks was an education.

Rizzuto, thank you for the tip on purchasing round the world tickets in Bangkok instead of from the States. We are now checking this out at a travel agency. What travel agency do you use to purchase round the world tickets in Bangkok?

Lyndie, thank you for calling the Face to let us know you were unable to attend the GTG. Perhaps another time.

Thank you to all the fodorites who share such great travel tips.

Isis, I actually bought the ticket directly through the airline (in this case, Lufthansa), though others have in fact used agents in Bangkok. Flyertalk has a wealth of information on the subject, especially in the Star Alliance and OneWorld alliance forums.

Great seeing you guys again at the GTG last night! I sat next to Isis at the Honolulu GTG in Aug 2005 and Rizzuto mentioned that he met me at the Boston GTG in Oct 2005. So, I had met everyone before. It was such fun sitting and chatting and laughing. Isis and Significant Other are a hoot. They keep me in stitches. And Rizzuto is a great conversationalist. Take care you guys and thanks Isis for putting it together. See you in Honolulu at the next GTG...hopefully in August 2006. Happy Travels!

Thanks for the GTG report. How did you all enjoy the bar at Face? We find it to be a very charming place, a peaceful respite in BKK. Sorry Lindy couldn't make it.

Isis... hope to connect around 29th or 30th of January!! I want to also make it to the GTG in HNL in August. This fodorite "family" is such a nice group of kind and helpful people.

Carole...I liked the Face bar. It was empty except for us. In one of my magazines...I think Bangkok 101...it mentions that the bar is usually empty. It was a really nice relaxing time...We were only 4, but that was fine with me. Just connecting with the Foforites was more important than the number... and yes...I agree the folks I've met, too have been great. Hope to see you in Honolulu. we need to start thinking of a date....so that we can put it on our calendars. I ended up with a $400 Delta Airline voucher on the way to the Boston GTG since I gave up my seat to an elderly woman... who looked exhausted...It was after midnight. She was so grateful. Thanked me profusely. I then flew on to Boston around 8 hours later I think it was. Happy Travels!
