yea I wasn't noticing the various seasonal pricing the first time when I was checking prices. the amounts do go up quite a bit for our date range so we will just have to raise our bar a litile. Thanks for all the good info. The Cha Am area does sound a bit to quite and family for us. I would like to be close to the beach and some town stuff as well.

do you know anything about this place?

My sister is more of a tight wad than me. She sees the hotel as just a place to lay your head, so she prefers to budget in that area. I don't to go to low though. This place seems okay, close to town and the beach. what do you think?

some asian standards will not meet up to your western standards for accomodations so pick carefully....being cheap can back fire on you and ruin your holidays....

I have never stayed there, but it's along the street from the Sofitel, you walk past the Sofitel in a busy area and then walk down between the Hilton and the Sofitel to the strart of the beach.
I guess if you want to be in town and walking distance to shops and restaurants then it's probably quite good value especialy at that time of year, but it is a very different Hua hin experience than say being down Takiab Way which is more local beach area, but within the range you have it would be tight.
Ocean Breeze is up in the USD 90+ price range over the very peak season, the Takiab beach Hotel nearby is cheaper and close to the beach but remember that area is about 10 minutes to the town center, that's either a plus or minus depending whether you want to stay more open air area or you want to be in the town center.
Good luck.

Me and my sister have been thinking the location over. I checked out the Takiab beach Hotel, and it does seem pretty good for the price. The beaches do seem nicer down that end. Are there good transportaion options from the Takiab area into Hua Hin if we decide to stay down there instead? I mean a few minuets drive into town would not bother me at all as long as there was decent transportation available. So for example, if we went into Hua Hin in the evening for dinner and entertainment, are we going to be able to find transport back to Takiab even if its late?

In Hua Hin last week, I stayed at a nice (huge) condo in a quiet area. Here's a link to the rental site:

rache, if Ocean Breeze was over your budget you could try Coral Keys Bungalows , they are in fact a bit closer to the beach, more budget style but still a/c and nice service ( run by same people as Ocean Breeze )

Thanks James, I will look into that. I tried the Takiab Beach Resort, and got an email back from them saying they were booked up for the dates I requested. I will try the Coral Keys. Although we have decided that we would rather be down in Takiab, I went ahead and made reservations at the Hua Hin Suites in town, and I was able to get a room there. Seems rooms fill up fast so as a last resort we will at least have that room. But I am going to keep looking for something in our price range in Takiab.

smiles,
rache

I tried the Coaral Keys, but they were booked up, in fact every place I tried in Takaib is booked up, so I went ahead and finalized my reservations at the Hua Hin Suites in Hua Hin. So that we would not get stuck without having a place to stay. I think it will still be okay. In fact I will prolly enjoy being in town more. My sister is more of the beach person. I like it okay, but like a few hours at the beach will be enough for me and then I will be ready for the town. Actually, I spend so much time on teh water it will be a nice break. We spend most of the summer on our boat here in the states. But anyway I guess we are all set to go. Thanks to everyone for all your wonderful information, it was really helpful and got me going in the right direction. All I have to do now is count time.

Glad you are all set. The beach is right in town so your sister can laze on the beach and you can weander the shops and small sois, on the corner is the Sofitel's Japanese Restaurant which is reasonable and has open air and inside dining, easy walk from there to the street that runs along near the fishing piers for restaurants, Monsoon nice for a cocktail, old world wooden style, arts and crafts and other shops, you can have seafood 'over the water', Blue Elephant is sidewalk drinks/coctails on your way back. Lots of market stalls on the soi from your area down to the beach. Bob is down there in November so will update no doubt on restaurants etc. If you walk up from the Sofitel area to the main road ( few mins ) you can ride a Songthaew ( pick up with seats ) down to Takiab for about 10 baht ! There are also massage and spa places in your area.

So after all the information gathering on Hua Hin, my sister has had some unexpected business come up and has to cancel on going to Thailand with me so it looks like i am solo again. So I have canceled the nights in Hua Hin, and am probably just going to do my orginal plan of Siem Reap for 2 or 3 days

Well I leave for BKK Saturday. Thanks to everyone for the information about the beaches and stuff. I am sure I will report on my trip when I get back.

P.S I changed my screen name from rache2000 to rache2005, becuase I noticed that at other places I post I was using rache2005, and I was getting confused on usernames and passwords so I have been trying to synchronize everything. Anyway Happy Holidays to everyone
