Beach Resorts in Malaysia

Last winter I went to Tioman Island and Langkawi. I loved them both. Any suggestions for other beautiful beach resorts accessible from Kula Lumpur? I'm thinking about Penang and Pangkor - any other suggestions?

Hi Sharon,

Maybe you can go to Club Mediteranee in Cherating, Kuantan. It is only a 35 minutes flight from Kuala Lumpur (KL for short). From Club Med, you can hire a car (either self drive or chauffered ~ not expensive) to Terengganu which is another state north of Kuantan. In Terengganu, there are a couple of islands where you can snorkel or dive in crystal clear waters and the beaches are pristine...heavenly even. One of the islands is called ' Pulau Perhentian'. Maybe you go to <Database of TravelHelpers> at http://www.geocities.com/The Tropics/2442/database.html
I remember seeing the e-mail address of a volunteer who lives in Terengganu.
The other place you may be interested in is Langkawi which is situated north of KL. This island is 2 hr ferry ride or 25 minutes by flight from Penang. You may visit Penang first then on to Langkawi. The island is very well preserved, not many modern buildings. As you ride along the road from the airport, you can see paddy farmers with their buffaloes and thatched roof houses. Very unspoilt. Most beach hotels have their own. I stayed at The Datai last year. I would highly recommend this hotel ~ if you have no budget constraints US$300-320 (I think)
do stay there. I promise you won't regret it. Their e-mail is : [email protected]
I see from their brochure (I have a habit of collecting brochures wherever I go) that they have reservation centres in North America 8004477462 and New York City 2122232848

BTW, I live in KL and since I'm not using my own pc will not be able to communicate with you direct. However, feel free to post yr questions here as I check here frequently.
Some Malaysian sites which may be of use to you are : www.cari.com.my or www. monet.com.my/vm/index_text.cfm or www.yellowpages.com.my/whatenew/freestuff.htm

Marang Safari/Resort in Terrengganu was out of this world. Get the rooms on the beach so you're not dealing with so many mosquitoes. It's set in a nature park acreage and there are wild animals roaming on the grounds, eg, iguanas, snakes, wild boars and supposedly a civet cat. They offer eco-tours to surrounding areas including diving/snorkeling. Wonderful service. Beautiful place. You'd go back in a heartbeat.

Hi

we're hoping to go to either Langkawi (probably Sheraton Beach Resort) or Tioman (Berjaya Resort) in July - I noted you'd been to both - I'd really appreciate any feedback, particularly on quality of beaches, problems with mozzies and things to do. We're taking our 8yr old with us so want a quiet but interesting holiday, great beaches, lots of good walks etc. Where did you stay? Which island do you think is best?

regards

Anne
