Thank you Fodorites for your hotel recommendations on the last stop on our seven week holiday.

We enjoy all varieties of food. We once did a cooking course at The Boathouse and have also visited Baan Rim Pa, both in Phuket. Those two experiences were very memorable and so we are doing some research for our trip to Bangkok.

It seems that there are some very interesting restaurants with memorable names like Cabbages and Condoms

What is good in 2012 ? Where should we eat ?

C&C is interesting but the food boring and made for tourists..

try face, which google lists as face bar... a really lovely place on soi 39? sukhumvit--they have seperate indian and tahi restaurants there.. make a res.. moderate price

sunday brunch at rang mahal in the rembrandt hotel--indian--ask for window seating--26th floor.. make a res..

harmonique, thai, off of new road between the oriental and sheraton hotels--cheap and good..

biscotti--italian in the 4 seasons hotel--our fav--expensive

dim sum at liu restaurant in the conrad hotel--lunch--fab

gallery cafe near royal orchid sheraton

crepes and co on soi 14? or 16? or 18?, sukhumvit rd.. crepes of all kinds and middle eastern food too.. a fav--moderate

I see you have chosen the Penn, which is our favorite Bangkok hotel. While there are restaurants within the Penn, they are overpriced and oriented towards tourists - other than the fabulous buffet breakfast by the river, I would give them a pass. Within shuttle boat distance are Harmonique and the Gallery - ask the boat driver to take you to the Oriental pier for these - they are within walking distance from the pier. As for Bob's other reco's above - Biscotti is great, Face is very good (Indian or Thai), Rang Mahal (Indian) is also excellent for dinner and has wonderful views. We enjoyed Kinnaree (Thai) as well. All of these can be accessed via the Sky Train. For upscale Asian fusion, many have raved about Gaggan - hopefully we will get there on our one-night stay in November.

we like the penn's chinese rest. on the lower level..

lord jim in the oriental has a fab buffet luncheon---res with window seat preferred

Another vote for Kanarree on Sukhumvit soi 8.
And another vote for Face.

Too many great places; not enough time!

It's been a while since we were at the Peninsula, but we loved Thiptara, their Thai restaurant on the river. Setting is magical...gorgeous candlelit open-air teak pavilion on stilts with exotic live music. There were lots of locals when we were there, but that could have changed. Food was pricier than elsewhere in BKK, but curries were authentic (we asked for spicy) - We also have done a Thai cooking course and are fairly picky...

An old fave of mine is Lemongrass, just down the soi from Emporium. I've eaten there every trip since some time in the 1980s.

We have just booked a few restaurants for our stay in September.

Dinner one night at Face Bar - we chose the Thai option!

Dinner another night at Royal Dragon - they deliver food on roller skates and on flying foxes.

Also having Sunday brunch at the Four Seasons - apparently a 'must do' in Bangkok.

if you are there over a sunday, then i recco the sunday brunch at madison at the four seasons. its the absolute best. pook introduced me to this place. great!!

i second lemongrass. i love it so much, i went there twice over two consecutive days. right kathie? lol.
