Bangkok - November 2014

We will be booking our trip to Bangkok for a November 2014 stay. We are booking it this early (before the end of this year) to take advantage of the lower ff miles required by United. Next year the award goes from 65,000 to 80,000 for economy to Asia.

We are thinking of the first few weeks in November and would like to know if anyone has similar plans. Bob/Karen are you guys planning on being there in early November?

We will likely stay at the Westin Sukhumvit as we enjoyed our stay there last time and its so convenient to the sky train and subway and Terminal 21.

We will be there sometime in November, dates unclear. But your post is a good reminder to book ahead with United miles.

bill, 2014 will see us in bkk in october unfortunately. we need to be in bali in sept so will take a few days in bkk and khao lak after that...

some place you asked about the renaissance.... we are not wild about it. good location, rooms a bit worn (and only after 2 yrs), club lounge very good, hallways very dark, beds excellent, furniture cheap and not that comfortable, 4* (not 5), communication with guests almost nil, lobby not welcoming, no recognition of status, stingy with the cheap towels--- so there is some good but lots of negatives for us. we will not stay here again.

Thanks Bob - I had that feeling when I looked at that hotel on Trip Advisor. Sorry we will miss you in BKK.

Bob, thanks for that review of the Renaissance. It isn't in my kind of location, but it might have been on my list of must-try at some point. Now I know to avoid it.

BillT, I will probably also be in Bangkok in October, and then again the last half of December, for the holidays. Sorry I will miss you.

You are right to book early, with UA mileage "cost" going up next year. Do you also know that United is not flying NRT to BKK after about April 5th, 2014? I'm going to probably start flying ORD to Hong Kong (and then TG to BKK short hop) rather than the longer 6 hr NRT-BKK flight on an Asian carrier where I have NO leg room and NO status.
