Bangkok: Massage

Hi Everyone,
I will be in Bangkok on Sept 15 for 5 days and would like to experience Thai massage, can you suggest places I can go to? I'm staying at Adelphi hotel.

Thanks

Go to the Thai massage school at Wat Po. The are a couple of places inside the temple but you often have to queue for a while. Alternatively, the school itself is just outside the temple walls and has air con and you rarely have to queue. Usually my first stop on arrival in Bangkok. Great for alleviatining the effects of jet lag!

There are lots of massage places nearby, but if you want a more memorable experience, go to Face Spa, a short walk from Thong Lor BTS station ( I think it is only one skytrain stop from your hotel) You can get just a massage, but the coffee scrub combined with the hot compress massage is my favorite. They do it in a little Thai house so it feels very "Thai".

Click on spa menu at the bottom for prices.

Yankee,

If you are looking for a spa a lot of the massage places near the Adelphi are basically a front for prostitution. Real spa, like the Face Spa cited by Lcuy is what you want. Apart from that there is also the Oasis Spa in Bangkok which is suppose to be good. However, the best spas are the one at the top hotels like the Oriental and the Banyan Tree.

If you are looking to try traditional Thai massage then Wat Po as crellston has mentioned is a good choice. If you want a Thai massage in a more modern setting, with a/c, private rooms etc then try Health Land. Their masseuse for Thai massage as well as foot massage is quite good but for swedish or oil massage the other spas are better. Nearest location to you will be Health Land soi Asoke.

i've been gong to them for years, and it has always been consistenly very good.

i've been to about 20 massage places, and bai po is the best.

Another thought is that perhaps you can ask the receptionist if they know of a lady who can come to your apartment and give you a massage. Normally around 500 - 700 Baht for a 2 hour massage.

Yankeetraveller, kuranosuke's suggestion would be a very short walk for you from Adelphi. I assume you are staying at Adelphi on soi 8 and not soi 41.

To get to Bai Po massage you simply walk up to the main street (Sukhumvit) from Adelphi (that is to the LEFT as you walk out of the hotel) and when you get to Sukhumvit you simply cross that street. It is a busy street. Sometimes you can jog thru the traffic and sometimes you need to go up the skytrain escalator, walk across, and take the stairway down on the other side. Soi 11 is that street this is directly across from Adelphi, soi 8. The Grand Business Inn is a short walk down soi 11, on the righthand side. You will see a restaurant called Kinarree and space for a car or two parking right in front of the GBI hotel. I am assuming you walk thru the lobby to get to Bai Po in the back? Kuranosuke would know that little bit of information.

Point is, Bai Po is very easy to get to from Adelphi on soi 8.

Thanks Ken. What about that rather fancy looking massage and spa place right on soi 8? I don't recall the name of it. It is between Adelphi and Sukhumvit Rd. I've walked by it dozens of times but have never gone inside. Is it just a front, as Pook was talking about, I wonder?

I've not noticed the fancy place that you so speak. I rarely go to soi 8.

I like bai po as its good therapy for my stress.

The "gals" come and go because you strip naked for a foot massage!

HT, my dates in October are showing an executive 1-bedroom apartment for about $95-100 per night. Not a bad rate at all!
