bangkok hotel choices

Does anyone have any experience in any of these hotels, or any input on locations?

Montien River
Grand Diamond
Grand President
Grand Bangkok Hotel
Bossitel (spelling?)

There are so many choices and since it's our first visit, I'm not sure about locations.

Thanks!
Judy

Judy,

I can help out on Grand President on Sukhumvit Soi 7. Although they offer low rates, I would avoid this hotel, particularly if you're not staying in Bangkok for more than a couple of days.

While there, I stayed at Tower III (across the street from the main two towers), for US$39/night. I guess you get what you pay for.

Here is what bothered me:
1. Walls were not sound proof - I could hear loud music playing in the next room around midnight.
2. I came back to the hotel at 18:00 to take a shower and go out again, and found that there is no soap in the bathroom. I phoned maintenance twice before I finally got it thirty minutes later.
3. Rooms looked rather shoddy.

Maybe, the situation in Tower I and II is better (probably costs more), but that's my experience for what it's worth. If you are in Bangkok for a month, this might be good value. For a short-term visitor, it pays to splurge.

Haven't heard about the other hotels.

P.S. In terms of location, Grand President is minutes away from a BTS Skytrain station. It's right beside the Sukhumvit road (a plus), and although it's not close to the river (and thus, many temples), I just took the Skytrain to the Thaksin boat pier (20-25 min. ride with nice views of the city), and then a 10-15 min. boat trip up to the Grand Palace and other attractions.

I had no complaints about the location, especially if enjoy various entertainment that Sukhumvit has to offer.

i stayed there for 3 nites this past may, in the same tower as raz.(i thought gp was on soi 11?) i guess i lucked out as i had no prob with my room. only bad thing was my view was the wall of the next bldg, but i am hardly in the room anyways.

it about a 5-10min walk to the nana bts. there are massage palours, trailor shops, a 7-11, internet cafe, along the way to sukhumvit. its a serviced apt. the ambassador hotel next door has a great lounge with live easy listening music in the early evening. no experience with the others.

byw, this place is next door to one of spygirls favorite bar, the bed.

Kuranosuke:

The GP is indeed on Soi 11. Mea culpa!

I stayed at Grand President for three weeks in June and July of 04 in one of the two main towers. I'm not sure which one, maybe tower 2? It is on soi 11 and a short walk to the skytrain. I think the rooms are very nice at GP. I would stay there again.
