Bali "visa upon arrival" - do they take credit cards or US$ ?

And, is it about US$25 each?

Thanks,
Kat

P.S. Thanks, Kathie for your earlier response.

It is $25.00 each for 30 days or I just saw that they now have a 6 day one that they are offering for $10.00. It wasn't clear whether this was already in place or if it was a future thing though.

You can pay cash in US dollars and Australian dollars I know for sure. You can also pay with a credit card. You might be able to use HK dollars cash as well...don't know. You pay at the first counter and then proceed to the next counter to get the actual VOA.

Visas are $US25 for 30 days or $US10 for 3 days. Be careful of the three day version, though. They usually take this to mean two days, three nights. I've known people to be hassled on exiting. If you're borderline, pop for the 30 days.

They take US dollars cash. I'm not sure about other currencies. (Kim says Australia dollars, yes.) They accept Visa and Mastercard. They do not accept American Express.

Maybe I heard wrong about the 6 day visa...I'm almost sure I heard that the 3 day one was being extended to 6 days...but I didn't pay much attention since we go for much longer. I say they take Australian dollars because some people we met paid that way, but we used US dollars.

Hi:

From -www.balidynasty.com/hotel/visaonarrival/

it was indicated that as of 1 Aug 05, the 21 countries that used to have the 3 day 'on arrival' visa for $10usd now get a 7 day 'on arrival' visa for $10usd.

Huh? A 3-day visa is two days and three nights? I don't see how that would make sense. You must mean three days and two nights, marmot.

Look at it this way: you would need a visa on arrival day. The next day would be day 2 and the day after that would be day 3. That's 3 days and 2 nights, no?

If you get a 6-day visa on Monday you had better leave on/before Saturday (or get another visa).

When I flew in to Lombok last year, the visa on arrival was cash only. They preferred US$. I have heard that they do take credit cards at Bali.

US cash is better and faster,,,for visa
and when you going out from bali you need 100,000rpa = 10usd, this time they accept rpa only.

and exchange currency usd to rpa they prefer clean new paper bill after ad2000, even rates are different with conditions.

have a nice trip!

Yes, the $US10 visa is now covers 7 days. If you're there for exactly 7 days or close to, I'd go for the 30 day version to avoid a "misunderstanding" on departure.

What is logical to you and me is not always so to the Indonesian immigration officers and they have a charming way of detaining you until you're just about to miss your flight at which point a little money moves things along.

bob, I thought that was your first, but your post said "two years ago". I would love to make it to the GTG but the chances are very slim now. Three weeks ago I decided to accept a job offer in southern California. Am moving out from my place in Virginia on Sept 1. and start my new job on Sept 26. So, travelling to BOS anytime soon is highly unlikely (but I do have a jetBlue FF award that I now don't know what to do with).

marmot, you are implying that you bribed the immigration person, or perhaps you "moved things along" by paying for a second visa or an extension or a fine. Or it was a story you heard.

I could see that a visitor might make a mistake thinking that today- to- tomorrow is day 1, to the next day is day 2, etc. when arrival day is actually day 1 whether it is 7AM or 11PM and is used up at midnight (and is printed (or written?) on your VOA).

When I left DPS, the immigration officer complained when my passport failed in his reader and he had to type the info in. Otherwise, he was professional. Of course, my total experience is a sample size of 1.

Although the situation has improved in recent years, corruption is still rampant in Indonesia and having an immigration officer ask for a contribution is a fairly common occurence.

It most frequently comes up when something is irregular in the traveler's documentation -- like a borderline stay on a visa or a passport that has less than 6 months to expiry date (which is another mysterious requirement).

When the official is faced with a complex situation that s/he isn't clear how to deal with the option of a little cash changing hands is often the easiest solution for all involved.

Expats I know who live in Bali say the "fees" for overextended tourist visas are now clearly established.
