Chiang Mai Hotel 3* old Town Suggestions?

Any suggestions for a 3 to 4 star hotel in Chiang Mai City, Old town area?
I will be arriving Jan 18 to the 26th. Love shopping and Wats.

Most of the better hotels are outside the old city. It doesn't really matter because there's very little difference between "old city" and the rest of central Chiang Mai - the "old city" is not distinctly different.

In the old city:
Tamarind Village
DeNaga

outside, but central locations:
D2
Le Meridien (5 star but often affordable)
Yaang Come Village

There are many others, check a booking site like Agoda which has a map showing hotel locations.

Thank you, John H. I've been on Fodor's and Agoda, etc. sites. Like having insiders suggestions. Have restaurants and site seeing lists packed and ready to go.

I always use www.sawasdee.com to book hotels in Thailand. The prices generally include tax, service and breakfast.

WE stayed at DeNaga in late October and liked it very much. I booked it on one of the websites mentioned above (Agoda--I think). Like you I was a bit "up in the air" about where to stay in Chiang Mai--and saw someone's post on Fodor's about the DeNaga. Decided to stay there and glad we did. It is a nice hotel, great location and very quiet. Breakfasts were excellent and lots of great restaurants in the area.
