Are there any? If so do they work with ATM cards from the US? Thanks!

Weren't in Phnom Penh, rather in Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) and the preferred currency is USD or Thai Bhat. We didn't bother with Cambodian Riel which has no (little) value.

So suggest you bring lots of small USD $1s $5s $10s, and if traveling via BKK, can bring Thai Baht. We also uses credit cards for any major purchases/meals.

As leaving hotel, I had to pay for something I took from the mini-fridge (shame on me) - paid in USD, got change in Riel (which was worth less than $.10). Go with USD and don't worry about ATMs.

I was just there and do not recall seeing any ATM's. Most likely you can borrow from your Visa/MC at any major bank for a small fee- just like in Siem Reap. Bring lots of small bills and enjoy some great shopping.
In response to an earlier question on Thai cooking schools......
I took the course at Blue Elephant and LOVED it! if you enroll in the morning class they take you to the market to shop for spices and produce. We met the most interesting people (about 8 in the class) and my husband and I, both 25, were by far the youngest in the group. Nooror was our chef and I hope you are fortunate enough to meet her. She's an absolute gem and one of the founding partners.

sfowler, as of my last trip, about 2 years ago, there were no ATM's in the entire country of Cambodia. I don't believe this has changed. Bring a lot of single dollar bills, not worn or shabby ones, and some other smaller denomination bills. Cambodia positively runs on the US dollar -- you could probably do an entire trip without changing money. We changed about $5 a day into riels and used it to give to the beggars.
