asia trip during the olympics
Hi, my name is Angel and me and 2 friends are planning to got to japan, hong kong, taiwan, malyasia, singapore, shanghai and of course beijing for the olympics. This is our first time travelling by ourselves, so we are quite confused, ticket pricing and tour and hotel arrangements are quite difficult to grasp at the moment. I was hoping that some of the fodorites would have some insight on an asia trip with similar locations we're planning to got to. And maybe some Olympic effects and news that might affect my visit. TRAVEL TIPS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!!! goal: good cheap prices and hot spots!

Those are a lot of places to cover. How many months do you have?
Be aware that the distances you are covering are quite large. For instance, the flight from Tokto to SIngapore is about 7 hours. You would be better off choosing just a few locations in closer proximity to each other.
If you opt to go to Bejing for the Olympics, the prices for travel at that time will be very high. Hotel rates may be anywhere from double the usual price to 10x the usual price.
I'd stop and think about what you really want from this trip, recognizing that you can't do it all.

yea thanks for responding, but our main focus is going to the olympics even though the pricing would be high, a closer proximity is a good advice however the only thats is since we're there we wanted to suck our experiece dry.
THANKS FOR REPLY, REALLI APPRECIATE IT!

If this is your first travel, then please go to the nearest bookstore as quickly as you can and buy Fodors, Lonely Planet, and DK Eyewitness Travel Guides. Begin with the practical information about currencies, personal safety, airports, etc.
There are no cheap places for the Olympics. Some places are multiplying their posted rack rates by a factor of 4 to 10. Event prices for foreigners are out of sight. You can easily spend $1000 per day for one ticket and one hotel room.
