asia pass destinations - help?!?!

Hi,

I am considering purchasing the Cathay Pacific All Asia Pass for a business trip to Shanghai in November. I know I will be stopping in Hong Kong but I also want to visit a beach resort in Asia. The resorts I can get to on the pass are Penang, Malaysia; Bali, Indonesia and Cebu, Phillipines.

Can anyone recommend one of these resorts and a reasonably priced hotel? I know that Cebu is the cheapest and the closest to HK but I have heard that it is dirty with a yucky beach.

Thanks!

Bali - without a doubt! Food, beach, culture, ...
Cebu: except my sister who got her diver license in Cebu, everyone else I know who have been there didn't enjoy it too much. I have not been there yet. But I sure know that Philipino food is not that tasty.
Penang: You can check out this website. It just doesn't sound as exciting as Bali.
Since you're flying with Cathay, have them book your hotel - their deals are the best. You can go to www.cathayholidays.com to check out their choice of hotels.

Go for Bali. Several beach resorts, and the chance to experience a different culture up close. Friendly people. Do some research on the different resort areas, but off the top of my head, the Hyatt in Sanur is nice an a room should be around 100US a night.

How about langkavi?. I heard that not only it is beautiful it is also less commercialised. I am also debating between Bali & langkavi

Hi Jake! I would think Bali is a good choice. It's beaches are very close to the airport, and that's a plus if you are time restricted. Asiatravel.com is a good website, I have used them several times.

Jorge recommended the Asia pass from Malaysia Airlines. Yes it is cheaper, but I think Cathay is worth the extra money. I flying frequently. I used to fly with cheap airlines. But after a few accidents, I decided to pay the extra for good airlines like Cathay Pacific. Cathay has a deal with pretty much all airlines: if you miss their flight, they can have you fly with another airline for free (if you cannot wait for their next flight - they have more flights than most others). You've got to realize that when you travel, accidents happen. Usually it is because of the traffic to the airport or bad weather. Once I got to the airport 20 minutes before departure. Cathay still managed to put me and my suitcases into my plane. In constrast, another time I was flying with some other airline, I arrived 30 minutes before departure, they told me "sorry" and all their flights were full for the whole month - I was screwed! Here is another thing between expensive airlines and cheap airlines: tour groups and many tourists tend to fly with cheap airlines, so once you miss the flight, you waste the ticket; with Cathay, there are always empty seats (yes, less noisy in the plane), they can work their way around. Don't like to fly back on Sunday when your travel agent tells you Saturday is full, just go to the airport on Saturday and ask Cathay if they have an empty seat, if they do, they would let you fly.
After all, you pay what you get.
