Asia-airport security questions
Does anyone recall or know if Thai,Malay, Indonesian,or Singaporian airport security requires liquids in 3 oz bottles and in 1 qt ziplock baggies like TSA does? Obviously sharps are probably an issue. We are trying to pack to minimize our weight for some of the discount airlines in Asia. Thanks

Thai, on an international flight (not to/from the US) did have the same requirement as TSA. Also, when you go through security from one flight to another in Narita, they also check liquids in the same way TSA does.

We are just back from the Far East- we took 9 flights between places and yes on all flights they are concerned about any liquids in hand luggage and have plastic bags for you to put them in. There is usually a "pre-search" before you put hand luggage through the scanner.

When you have a flight to the U.S. or on a U.S. carrier there are extra searches.
Yes, they do check for the little plastic bags.
You can fit enough stuff in the small plastic bag to hold you over for a long flight. They do check for full bottles of booze in your carry on bag too! Some passengers buy from the duty free shop and try to carry the stuff in the carry on bag.
No matter how long this procedure has been in effect TSA or the foreign counterparts still find full bottles of perfume, cologne, hand creams etc. that exceed the size limits.

All the countries you list have adopted the Liquid Aerosol & Gel rules, but enforcement tends to be lax. In Thailand, they tend to be more strict on domestic flights than international (except to US) but sometimes they do check.
It's perhaps worth noting that in Indonesia, there are TWO security checks. You have to go through one just to get into the check-in area of the airport. This is usually cursory, and you don't have to remove anything from you bag to get through this screening.
The second screening will be to get into the departure lounge or the gate, depending on the airport, and it will be more strict.
