Asahi, Japan

Has anyone on this board been to the town of Asahi? My daughter will be going there next month and has not been able to find any information about it.

I spent some time googleing Asahi, Japan and Asahi seems to be a pretty common name in Japan.
If it is the city in the Chiba prefecture, then she's only about 3 or so hours from Tokyo.
That's all I know.

What prefecture? Chiba-ken (Chiba prefecture) is close to Tokyo. I think Narita airport is in Chiba prefecture.

It's closer to Tokyo. I am pretty sure that Tokyo Disney is in Chiba

Aloha!

The posters replied above are all correct. Narita (New Toyko Airport)is in Chiba, Tokyo Disney Land is in Chiba, that means even though they have Tokyo in their names, they are not really in Tokyo.

Lastly, Asahi IS a common name and there must be lots of Asahi-cho or Asahi-machi, all over Japan. You have to tell us Asahi in which region.

Asahi (Morning Light) > Asahi News Paper, Asahi Beer, etc. Very popular name in the country of the "rising sun".

If your daughter is going to Asahi-shi in Chiba prefecture, that's located about 25 kilometers south-east of Narita, and by the beach. It's a small shi (a sort of city) with a population of 71000.

Thank you all for your very kind and helpful replies. I found out that my daughter's husband will be teaching at the Asahi General Hospital. Does that help narrow it down?

Oh, you are the Asahi, Chiba-ken, visitor. You'd take the JR Sobu line to Ryogoku. Don't worry about finding the Kokugikan. You'll want to get there around 1PM. After you get in and get settled, go and get in the line for chanko nabe.

Thank you, the truly Mr. Wonderful, I've forwarded your information to my daughter and advised her that she MUST do this so that she can tell me all about it. When we were in Tokyo, it was not the sumo time.
