Any one get ill upon returning from India?

My co-workers daughter returned from India late October. SHe immediately became ill--fatigues easily--achy joints..headaches etc. She has seen several doctors. One doctor suggested she had a parasite and there wasn't anything she could do except wait for it to pass through her system. This has been 6 months now. Can anyone help?

She needs to see a tropical medicine specialist. There are many things it might be. A parasite is one option, dengue fever is another. Just waiting because the doctor doesn't know doesn't make sense. Virtually all medical schools have travel medicine clinics and could refer her to a specialist.

I was sick in India and also after when I reruned home. I did not last 6 months to recover, however. More like 3 weeks. Your friend could have picked up a parasite because this is common. I had a friend who picked up a parasite in the Africa and she was sick for over a year. Do you live in a small town?? Your friend should try to seek out a specialist in a large city who has some experience with this kind of thing.

A couple of former co-workers, who were Indians visiting family members, both came back really sick. For one of them, she was sick for several months.

One had a parasitic bug. The other they think the problem was the result of getting bitten by a spider. We live in NYC and from what I remember, they basically just had to ride it out and make sure that the symptoms didn't get any worse.

You might want to pose this question on an Indian chat-room on someplae like Yahoo. You may find people who have had similar problems.
