"but I think I'd realy like to be out of a city and gonna spend the extra night I get by skipping Nagoya in Takayama. "
That's a great idea, though Takayama is a city with a population of about 92,000 it is also the largest city by area in Japan. It has a small town feel [compared with a major city like Kyoto, population of over 1.47 million] because it is easy to walk or bike to many sites. Other sites are a bit longer walk, or bus/taxi, like Hida no Sato which is uphill at the end getting there, but an easy walk back to town.
The JNTO guide for Takayama states that 'visiting Higashiyama Teramachi you will fully understand why Takayama is called “little Kyoto”'. I don't fully understand that as I didn't visit that area in either of my visits to Takayama.
I recommend adding a day to your visit to the Hida area and include a visit to the village of Ogimachi, Shirakawa-go.
