I am currently in BKK, and here are some of the things I like to do best.
1. Take a longtail boat ride on the river and into the canals to see life along the waters edge, it's fascinating
2. Shop at MBK for bargains
3. See a movie. It doesn't even have to be a good movie, as long as you see it at the EGV Gold Class Theater in Siam Center/Discovery location.
4. Go to the top of State Tower and have a drink at Sky Bar. Noted in a British magazine as the most beautiful bar in the world, I would agree!
5. Visit Wat Pho and Grand Palace. If time, get foot massage at Wat Pho.
6. Go to Suan Lum night bazaar for shopping and live entertainment in the beer garden
7. Dine at The Bed Restaurant! A unique experience!
8. Go to Tawandang night club for pork Tawandang and chili fish, and for the terrific live show on stage.
9. Have a game of pool, or just watch and sit and chat with friends, at the Brunswick and eat Ming's chili and sticky rice.
10. Riding the skytrain, when it isn't crazy crowded, and looking out the window at this wonderful world class city.

There you have it.
I was in Hong Kong several years ago, and would say that taking the ferry from Hong Kong to Kowloon is fun, as is shopping in the big malls. Also the tram to the top of Hong Kong is a must do, in my opinion.

Have never been to Tokyo, other than passing through the airport en route to BKK.

To hipvirgochic

Tawandang is not across the river. It is in the opposite direction from River City, I think. I will have to ask my son for the name of the street it is on. Yes, it is Tawandang German Brewery. Is it possible there is more than one in BKK????

The music at Tawandang is hip hop plus Thai jazz fusion played by "Bruce" who has long hair and I think is Brit or American (?) but has been in BKK for a long time. His show is fantastic!

Carol -- thanks for the info. I think I found it in either Nancy Chandler's or Luxe guide. I can probably find the address. It sounded like a cool place, so hope to check it out when there this month.

Son says that there are two Tawandangs. I did NOT know that. We go to the one that is in the southeast part of the city, on Rama III Road. It really is an awesome place to eat, dance, see a great show, and enjoy the smiles of the Thai people. There are very few farongs there (we USED to be the only ones there... but others have discovered the place now).
Have fun!

Carol -- Thanks for the update Very good to know there are two. The one I found is the one you are talking about and it's on the Nancy Chandler map. I'm ready!
