Some places have a separate service charge (like the 10% service charges at most Thai hotels), some fold it into their cost. LIkewise for taxes, so I'm specifying all of this for you so you can compare what you are being quoted.
arrival night at Villa Araliya (double deluxe room) with breakfast $65 plus 10% service = $71.50
Kandalama, luxury room, 4 nights with half board (breakfast & dinner) $228 per night total $912
Kandy House Super Deluxe Gallery room, 2 nights including breakfast $155 per night plus tax +10% service = $323.64
Ceylon Tea Trails, Castlereigh Bungalow, Luxury room (Tate) 4 nights at $385 per night full board = $1540
Car and driver, airport to airport, $422.20 for 11 days including tax. But it turned out that BSL underestimated mileage (apparently a rare error) so the total was actually about $480. Of course, we tipped our driver very generously.
I'll be interested in whether you can find lower prices directly right now.
