10 days in japan

Hi,

We are a family of 4 ( age 45,45,20,16) planning a trip to japan in early april . i believe its the best time to visit since its the cherry blossom season.
we have never been to japan before . would like to cover the "must see" places along with some outdoor natural sightseeing.
we are flexible to increase or decrease the trip by 1 or 2 days .

Are you planning to visit THIS April or next?

It's pretty late to be at the early planning stage only if you want to go this year, especially if you want to visit the busiest places like Kyoto and Hakone, which are popular in April especially. In that case, it may be best to either book a tour via an agent or spend the next couple of days researching hard and book what you can that's available.

I would suggest you start by reading as much as you can on www.japan-guide.com, working out your top interests and approximate itinerary and then coming back here to ask for suggestions for improvement.

What does > mean? Seriously? There is no such thing as a "must see" place because something I may want to see could be irrelevant, boring, or horrific to you.

Let's figure out what YOU want out of the trip.

Do you have interests? If so, what are they?

Have you looked at the useful online information repositories for Japan? The single best one is www.japan-guide.com, which is excellent. The next best one is Fodors because . . . time to plug the company who runs the website.

Fodors has information on Tokyo, Kyoto, other major cities in Japan. The Japan Guide will have TONS of information on the sakura (cherry blossom).

And if April means April 2016, you better hit lastminutetravel.com and get your lodging and flights set.

Ditto Kavey and BigRuss. Also, do add any extra time you have -- you'll almost certainly wish you had more time, even if you extend to 12 days, and look for flights into Osaka and out of Tokyo or vice versa. Good luck!
