1 Day in Taipei

My wife has business meetings at the Hsinchu Science park about 60 miles outside of Taipei on a Monday and Tuesday in August. Her flight arrives around 5:00AM from L.A. and she was hoping to spend a day in Taipei before heading to a hotel closer to the park (I assume this would be better than commuting back and forth each day). Does anybody know what she could do with her luggage while sightseeing for the day? Other than possibly the large musuem and Taipei 101, is there anything else you would recommend in her short time in Taipei?

Thanks in advance.

For me, except National Museum, the following are more interesting than Taipei 101:

Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall
Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall
Lungshan Temple
Confucius Temple

I second the recommendation for Lungshan Temple. The carvings are beautiful (with interesting stories behind them), and it's facinating observing the different rites going on.

Also, she might want to visit the Lin Family Gardens. Lovely architecture. Here's a link:

CKS Memorial is fine, but Aug is scorching hot so avoid walking outside.

Several other suggestions

There is a fantastic antique map exhibition of Taiwan at the Taiwan History Musuem right near the Taipei Main Station. The building itself is a beauty to behold and the maps exhibited are quite impressive.

Also, at the Taipei City Government building there is a wing dedicated to the history of Taipei. Admission is free and the three floored exhibition is interactive and has a model of the city when it was walled.

As for food, Ding Tai Fong has the best dumplings in town. A must for Taiwan.

I enjoyed Lungshan, we happened to be there on a God's birthday and it was really crowded, with a long procession of monks and people giving pofferings.

The National Palace Museum would take a LOT more than a day to see properly, I think.
