Where's My Suitcase - an expirience
These people were contracted by United Airlines to deliver my suitcase to my house. I indicated that they could leave it on my small porch. They did, in the pouring rain with no cover of any sort. My bag was drenched, all of the paper material in the outside pockets were ruined and all of my clothing was damp and had to be either washed or dry cleaned, even the unused articles. I was supposed to be called before delivery. I wasn't and so couldn't gete home to bring the bag inside. When I contacted them I got this reply...
"Thank you for contacting Where's My Suitcase Customer Service. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. At the time you will have to contact United Airlines regarding any damage your luggage may have received. For your convenience I have provided United Airlines contact information below."
If your bags are delayed and the airline offers to have them delivered, you should ask if this is the company they use and demand another carrier.

For the uninitiated, "Where's My Suitcase" is a company that contracts with 8 major airlines (American, Air France, Delta, United, Lufthansa, Jet Blue USAir and Alaska Air) to deliver delayed baggage.
Well, you did say you "indicated they could leave the bag on your small porch" - perhaps it wasn't raining at your house when the suitcase was delivered. So if your porch was unprotected getting rain on was a risk you voluntarily assumed. According to Where's My Suitcase website you can opt for "delivery without a signature" (which presumably what you did). That seems to absolve them from any liability for the bag getting wet.
Also on the website it says you could have opted to delay delivery of your bag and specify a date and time frame for delivery. You obviously didn't select this option which would have prudent given you didn't have a protected area to leave the suitcase.
I didn't see anything on the company's website that indicated they would "call before delivery" but there is a place where you could track the status of your delivery.
It's unfortunate your documents and clothes got wet but you did give them the OK to leave the suitcase on the porch. You probably should try contacting United Airlines to see if they will give you some satisfaction but don't get your hopes up too high as their investigation might turn up the fact that you gave the carrier the OK to leave the bag on the porch.

I agree - you told them to leave it on the porch and they did.
It's too bad about the contents, but I don't see any liability on their part or the airline. You gave instructions and they did what you asked . . .
