USAirways Ticket in March - Please Help!

My son is holding a USAirways ticket for March and we are asking for advice regarding this ticket. What if USAirways folds - what happens to the ticket since it was purchased this past fall? (This was purchased on a credit card). Will another airline honor it since it was not a FF ticket? How exactly does an exchange of ticket work? We would appreciate any help! Thanks.

Fairway - do a search here, but no one knows for sure, we all are making educated guesses.

Another airline, though, will not likely honor ticket - bill was passed in Congress saying for a fee (don't remember if it is $25 or $50) for travel within US on same route, another airline must honor on standby basis.

Credit card isn't going to back you, since it is over 60 days.

Can't exchange ticket for anything at this point. You are sitting there with a ticket like many of us (including me) hoping that ticket has some value.

In the case of a bankruptcy, wouldn't the 60 day dispute limit not apply? I believe since you never received the product you paid for, credit card companies would have to reimburse.

US AIrways had an ad in most PHL papers this past Sunday. Taking apps. for customer service and baggage handlers. I would think they are not folding if they are hiring people. (??) We also have tickets for end of Jan. so we are hoping the ads were a sign of encouragment.

Thanks all for the advice... sounds like maybe they have a grace period for a while -- that would be good. Let's keep our fingers crossed !

It looks like USAir has received a financial reprieve until the end of June. So flights plans through then should be OK.

It looks like it won't be an immediate problem but should they fold I believe the credit card company will reimburse you even if your purchased is over 60 days old. I bought my US Air tickets last September for Feb 2005 and right after they went Chapter 11 I called the credit card company and asked what would happen if they fold before my trip and was told not to worry that I would be reimbursed.

I need flights to Florida, one in March and one in Early April. I have been waiting to purchase tickets from US Air. They are my first choice. I am going to go ahead and purchase the tickets with this airlines. I hope I won't be sorry.

Diann,
You should be fine with your March and April flights. USAirways got loan guarantees to keep them in business until June 30th.
