US Airways cancels Christmas Eve

In July, my daughter bought tickets to come home to Boston from Washington DC after work on Christmas Eve. An hour ago she got an e-mail canceling her flight.

She couldn't accept their offer of a 10:30 AM flight; she's the only one providing coverage in her office (everybody else has to travel even farther). Well then, did she want to fly out the "next day" instead? No, that's Christmas Day! So she got a refund instead. Merry Christmas!

I'm sorry to hear this, but Christmas Eve is still six weeks from tonight. (Six weeks!) Is there nothing else available?

Oh, sure, after prolonged and very unsatisfactory conversations with various US Airways staffers, she went back to her old favorite from her college days, AirTran, but she has to get out to BWI and will arrive in Boston hours later.

At least they sent an e-mail notifying her. I usually discover these things when just happen to log into my FF account and glance at my theoretically existing reservations.

I wish her luck. I have found waiting until Christmas Eve to fly is risky. A missed flight may mean no more seats are available until after Christmasn.

When I first saw this post the other day, my first thought was who gave US Airways the authority to cancel Christmas Eve!!
