United Club at Heathrow
Early next spring, we'll be flying from Amman through Heathrow and back to IAD on United. Given our choices were one hour between flights or four hours, we now have four hours at Heathrow. I am thinking about buying a one-time pass to the United Club, which United is selling on-line for $39. I've poked around the Internet for reviews of this lounge but can't find anything (at least where I'm looking). Does this sound like a good investment if we want a quiet spot to hang out?

I don't believe United has a club at LHR. There used to be a Red Carpet Club, but it closed a few years ago when United moved within LHR. Last time I transited through LHR on United, I used the Star Alliance Gold lounge, but I'm not sure a UC daypass will get you in to that--would definitely check that before buying one.

Thanks ms go. It looks like a paid one-day membership in the United Club entitles me to use the Star Alliance lounge in terminal 1 at Heathrow -- at least the Web site says this. Will try to find a human to talk to, too, to double-check.

Yes, definitely double check.
FYI, I found this in the footnotes on the T&C for United Club one-time passes (bolding is mine):
This pass grants one person, one-time access to any United Club worldwide
Guests are not permitted with one-time pass.
Access subject to space availability.
Valid at all United Club locations.
One-time pass does not provide access into any United Arrivals Lounge, United International First Lounge, Star Alliance Lounge or Star Alliance partner lounge.
You must be 21 years of age or older to redeem.
Void if altered, bartered or sold.
Lost or stolen passes will not be replaced or redeemed for cash or credit.
This pass is subject to United Club terms and conditions, which United has the right to amend or modify with or without notice to its customers.
In order to use the one-time pass, you must hold a same-day ticket for air travel that allows clearance through airport security.
One-time pass must be presented and surrendered upon use.
One-time pass is non-refundable.
Also, I searched on Flyertalk and found several threads that would suggest no access, including this one:
