United changed my departure flight

I know I have to call the airline but I am wondering if they are going to give me a hard time.

I booked a non stop flight to Rome with United back in January for November. The price was really good so I jumped on it. Well yesterday, I got an email saying my flight out has been moved to the next day. This means I lose a day of vacation. I see a connecting flight that would get me in the day I want and only 2 hours later. I would be happy with this. My reservation doesn't tell me to confirm but when I try to change it, I think it wants me to pay. I don't think this is correct so I will call them tomorrow but when I had a similar issue with another airline, I had to escalate my request. It really was a bad experience. I've not done this with United so any advice or things I should know besides being nice when I call? I don't think this is unreasonable but will they try and make me pay?

In my experience, United will change your flight at no cost to you, since they are the ones who changed your flight.

Your best bet will be to call with specific alternatives ready.

Thank you both. I just called them and it went smoothly. I was just nervous as I've only had to do this with American in the past and it was a nightmare. I had everything on hand so thank you for the support.
