Turkish Airlines
Has anyone ever flown them? Any comments on service, comfort and/or reliability? I've seen some flights to Slovenia/Croatia for around $700, which is very tempting but I know nothing about the airline. The same site offers flights on Lufthansa for a little over $1000, which I would pay if there is a big difference in the service, etc.
Also, is anyone familiar with "skyscanner.com" for discount flights? Thx.
Any comments would be appreciated.

ok, panecott, you got me to find this:
After only one loss-making year during the pandemic, Turkish Airlines has swung back to profitability in 2021. The carrier reported a profit of $959 million compared to an $836 million loss in 2020.Mar 1, 2022
I have seen that TK had significantly lower fares than other airlines to some destinations. The Turkish economy has been sucking wind recently and wondered if the low fares were a sign of financial instability (i.e. low fares just to get cash to operate kind of thing).
So, no reason to be concerned given the news. A stopover in Istanbul would be worthwhile if you have the time.

It has been a few years since we traveled, so don’t know if this opinion still has value, but this was our experience. Lufthansa was always the most efficient airline we ever flew, but Turkish Air is our absolute favorite. It had the most comfortable seats, best food and great service, from purchase of tickets to in-flight attendants. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Thank you, mrwunrfl and Sassafrass.
After I posted I did some research and I was surprised to see some very negative reviews for Lufthansa on TripAdvisor. They were all pretty recent so I'm thinking the airline might still be having service issues as a result of Covid but it did give me pause. Glad to hear your positive reviews of Turkish Airlines and thanks for your research, mrW.
Additional comments still welcome.

I have flown Turkish several times, both long distance and short haul, although not recently. The only problem I remember was that at one time the control boxes for seat back entertainment took up part of the leg room, but I doubt that is the case now. I would have no hesitation in flying with them again. I have never flown Lufthansa.

Flew them to Venice via Istanbul and they were great. There was a guy dressed up as a chef doing some of the service, but my aisle got the standard FA (it didn't matter to me, but they used to make quite a point of it). Seats fine, some nice extras (Turkish Delight etc.).
I did notice that the pilot addressed pax as, "Ladies and Gentlemen and dear Children," which I thought was a kind touch.

Skyscanner is useful for turning up European "budget" airlines that may not be listed on sites oriented towards North American and trans-Atlantic carriers. It also surveys North American flights but I don't know how thoroughly. No search can find everything. It also can suggest destinations by searching by country. Its reports give links both to airlines and to other search agencies; I would only use the airline link as it is always best to deal directly with the carrier whenever possible..
