tickets through Travelocity

My sons booked a trip to a wedding in Florida in October through Travelocity last week. When son finished reservation, realized they were asked for first and last names only. All of their IDs include their middle names. Son called call center and "Fred" said the middle names (which son gave him) would be on the e ticket they get at the airport. Anyone gone through Travelocity since new rule in place? I really don't want them to go through grief that could ensue from this. Thanks

It's not just Travelocity. I book directly through the airline and just use my 1st & last nemes. I flew just last week on a ticket that has my first/last names, and used my id, which includes my full middle name. Also in my party is a person who goes by their middle name and the ID has full name. Both of us had no issues.

As long as the names on the ID match what's on the ticket they will have no problem.

There is a lot of internet discussion about the new rule. Some will say every name and letter that's on the id must be on the ticket. Others, including myself see the ID rule being interpreted as "no discrepancies" between the ID and the ticket.

In my opinion (& recent experience) this is what the rule means

No problem:
ID: John Quincy Smith
Ticket: John Smith

ID Mary Jane Smith
Ticket: Jane Smith (goes by middle name)

Problem
ID: Bobby Joe Smith
Ticket: Sam Smith

When I booked a flight last week directly with the airline,I couldn't put the middle name. I wouldn't worry about it as long as first and last are accurate.

TSA is phasing in new rules as of Aug 1. Going to need middle name, sex, and date of birth. I thought that info would be collected after the 1st and become a hard requirement sometime next year. All part of the need for us to request permission from the federal government to travel.

The TSA's "phase in" seems to be pretty lax.

I have flown about 5 times since 8/1. Ticket has none of this useless data. I think I MIGHT have provided it to airline for one flight... and no issues at all.

The whole ID thing is based on the TSA's FIRM belief that the terroirst will have a name of "I AMA TERRORIST" Of course while they do that, guns are zipping right past the scanners, but...

TSA- Thousands Standing Around!

While the TSA maybe phasing in their new rules, the airlines haven't adjusted their online ticket process to allow you to input your name the way the TSA wants it on your ticket purchase.

Oh no, the airline wouldn't let me put the middle initial when purchasing on the website. Osama would have to spell out his middle name even if that isn't the way it is on his DL or leave it off.
