I am completely new here and also a very un-traveled traveler, so please be gentle with me gt; My husband, brother-in-law and I were scheduled to fly to Spain in May on Delta and then Air France. Well, after the tickets were purchased (w/FF miles) my husband finds out that he can't go. I want to take a friend instead. At the bottom of the airline confirmation, it says "non-transferrable" does this mean that it cannot at all be transferred into another name or does it just mean that we would have to pay a fee? I would appreciate any knowledge that you can impart to the ignorant in this situation!

You have to call the airline. They will likely make you pay a fee to redeposit the miles and then you will have to re-use them for a new ticket. I hope they do not give you some nonsense about there not being any FF seats available at that point - but the only way to find out is to call them.

Also, sometimes they insist the owner of the FF account make the phone call. This is silly, because they do not know who it is on the phone, but I have had airlines tell me they can't do business with me on the phone using my husband's FF account.

They won't just let you change the name. And <b>very likely</b> that after your husband's seat is redeposited in the system, it won't be available for FF redemption, if you're willing to pay the redeposit fee.

I am very willing to pay a fee, but will they change it after that? I guess I just need to call the airline. I just hoped that I could get some quick info. here. Thanks!

Hi Everyone! Good news! I was able to call Delta and they redeposited the miles and then re-issued the ticket in my friend's name. Fortunately there was still room on the flight. Thanks so much for your input!

Redepositing his miles does not automatically open new award seats. Depending how well the flights are selling at the moment, your husband's award seats may be put back into regular revenue inventory.

If your husband can'r really go then you have no choice but to redeposit the miles and pay the fee. The little good news is that he should get any taxes paid on his ticket.

But you can't just change names.

If you can't get the same exact flights for your friend, would s/he be willing to take different route and fly by themselves? That's an option.
