Stupid mistake-I accidentally cancelled my flight on AA

We are to leave DFW June 11th for Turks and Cacios. (I purchased the 2 first class tickets over a month ago.)
So, today I called AA to get the terminal info and was told our reservations had been cancelled on May 22!!! I remember around that time reviewing AA.com "My reservations" online and hitting cancel thinking I was ONLY removing the reservation from the acreen, NOT truly cancelling it. I feel like such an idiot!!(are you dying with me?) I thought I was going to get sick!!
I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor. The airline gods must of been looking over me because I got angel Paula. After I explained what happened or what I thought happened she went to serious work for me and was able to get flights almost identical to ones I'd cancelled. (and this is 5 days before departure) I did have to pay a little higher fare for my ticket, but hubbies was a wash. She also waived the change fee on both tickets. I can actually breath now.
She said this happens all the time, which made me feel better, but I still feel like AA.com should make this more clear for us dummies!!

Some of those AA service people are truly great. I really hate the AA site. I'm on dial-up & it's hideously slow. I wonder why you had to pay more for your ticket if it was an F? Especially since your husband's stayed the same?

I believe that just pressing Cancel on the reservation page is not enough to cancel the ticket. There are at least 2 if not more pages that you need to confirm and re-confirm that you really want to cancel the ticket...so???

OTOH, all is well, but the story is little shaky

Very good points. Actually, I do remember hitting cancel and there was a pop up that said are you sure you want to cancel? and I said yes. But, to tell you the truth I'm exhausted and don't feel like fighting it out...I have a delayed stress headache.

I have certainly learned a very hard lesson. At least, we're still going and on the original dates.

Thought I read not long ago about aa.com getting a website award. Looks pretty quick to me, even on multiple connection trips with partners (LAX-HKG, LAX-JNB). The site has a nice flexible date option that takes some time, but that's to be expected. Maybe see if there are website preferences in your aa.com profile that you can set or unset to speed it up.

It's not that it's a bad site. I agree with you that it's a good one. It's easy to find what you're looking for & the categories are well-laid out but my best connection speed down here in 3rd World land is 45.3 kbps & that's better than with my old internet provider.
