Sinagpore Airlines vs. Cathay Pacific
Any information about economy class on SQ vs CX will be appreciated. I am traveling with a young kid. Particularly interest to know which ariline has more leg room. Thanks.

Legroom should be about the same, with the exception of the Executive Economy on SQ 19/20, non-stop between Singapore and LA. Those A340-500 have wider seats and more legroom than regular Y class.

If you look at seating plans of SQ and CX's 744, you'll find that they are pretty much standard fare in terms of number of rows. Same as regular Y on UA - i.e. about 31-32" pitch. In contrast, the E+ seats on UA is about 34-36". So, if you're used to UA's E+, you'll find the legroom lacking on regular SQ or CX Y seats.

Also - I have not flown in UA's E+, but the regular Y seats of UA's 744s do not have personal video screen. Both SQ and CX have those on basically every seat of their planes. To me, that makes time pass on long trip to Asia much much faster. And if your kid is old enough to play video games, that'd make it a pleasure ride vs a torture on UA's Y - probably more important than legroom (at least for the kid).

CX econony has decent seats with the adjustable headrests (the kind that you pull the side forward to cradle your head), foot rests and personal viewing monitors for shows, movies, games, etc in all the seats.
I fly CX on a regular basis. They are typically a little bit more than UA, etc, but IMO the service quality is worth it. I switched to CX exclusively for my US to AP travel.
Food service is surprisingly good plus they set up snacks (fruit, cookies, etc) in the galley area for non food service periods of time.
Regardless of who you fly with, travelling with a young kid can be a challenge to both you and the innocent bystanders seated around you. I'm guessing that you'll plan to bring along toys and distractions. Depending on where you're flying to you may want to try to schedule such that you'll spend the first half of the flight on "night time sleep mode" and the second half of being "entertaining". If there are two adults in you party you may want to stagger the "shifts".
FYI, you may be able to upgrade to business at the airport for a much lower thatn business fare rate if there is availability on the flight. CX does this, just ask if they have anything available.
Good luck!

Thanks to both rkkwan and cjbyrant. I actually got my tickets yesterday on UA with confirmed upgrade to Business class, I did have to pay a bit more than CX/SQ, but they offer child fare on the class of booking, so I ended up paying just approx $300 more for both of us and I am happy with the outcome.
