Showers at AMS and LHR

Folks:

I am planning a trip to Italy and will be changing planes either at Heathrow or at Schiphol. Does anyone know of shower facilities in the terminals at those airports? I am not a frequent flyer and do not have any club memberships, so this would have to be a public facility.

I will greatly appreciate any tips.

I'm not sure about LHR, but at AMS you can use the Hotel Mecure. The shower area is in the passenger area beyond security. If I recollect, this is open 24 hours a day and costs around $15 to $20.

At Heathrow, some major airlines let you into their arrivals lounges if you're travelling First or Business.

Otherwise, you may use only:
- facilities that are landside in your arriving terminal, if you're changing terminals landside, OR
- landside facilities in your departing terminal if you're changing terminals landside, AND
- facilities that are airside in your departing terminal if you're changing terminals airside

So if you're arriving at T1 and leaving from T4, you can't use airside showers in T1. But only you know your travel details, so we can't help you much.

You need to search under showers at the Heathrow website for the relevant terminals - remembering that terminal allocation changes between March and April of next year.

Here's a service I will look into the next time I have a long layover at LHR.

http://www.yotel.com/

Flanner, if you have any info on the yotel, please do tell.

A year ago, we arrived from the U.S.A. in Terminal 4 and departed to Egypt from Terminal 4. There are very nice public showers available.
