We are having a layover in Salt Lake City over 5 hours. Is it worth it to get out and see the city?

Only if you want to see the Mormon Temple, or the Tabernacle.

If it's winter, why?

I'd definitely do it, even in the winter. Nice city center to stroll for a little and it's not far from airport.

There was even a free tour that included transportation from airport. Most likely run by the LDS. Do a search - it may still be available.

Stay in the airport only if you have access to the Delta Sky Club.

I do have access to the Delta Sky Club. We will be flying from Hawaii with a 6 year old. This was the cheapest ticket I could find to fly to Hawaii for the holidays.

Check to see if a 6 yr old is allowed into the Sky Club.. Some places don't allow children..Airport is a great people watching place..Nearly as good as old Stapleton was..Off the wall skiers and their garb!!!
