NWA KLM Question
My daughter and I are flying DFW to AMS in Feb.09 and when I tried to select my seat assignments now that we are within 90 days I was unable to do so.
Even though I bought the flight on the NWA site I now learn that the flights are KLM flights and they don't let you pick seats until 24 hours before the flight.
Has anybody had experience with this before? how does it work out? If it was a short haul flight it would be no big deal, but I really hope to not get stuck in a middle seat or not sitting with my daughter for that matter.
thanks, lynda

You tried calling NW already and they won't assign you the seats on KLM?
You can try entering your KLM confirmation number (if you have it) in the "Manage your reservations" box on www.airfrance.us. If you don't know the KLM number (not the same as the NW one), click "other search criteria" and enter your ticket number. Do you see a "Your travel preferences" on the next page with a button to select or modify seats? I don't know if this works if your flights are NW coded.

You can definitely get seat assignments ahead on KLM's trans-Atlantic flights.
Not sure if it's also 90-days or not, but my parents just flew them last month. I believe I have to call NW to do it for them, but they definitely have advanced seat assignments.
It's intra-Europe flights that you can't get advanced seat assignments.
Once I've gotten seats for them, I can look it up on klm.com (by choosing the country preference to Netherlands - if you choose US, you'll be redirected to nwa.com).

Patty, thanks for the info on getting in through AirFrance. I was able to do it with your directions. The seat reservations aren't showing up yet on the NWA site yet. Maybe tomorrow?
Our flight out is Feb 9th and within the 90 day window, our return flight isn't until Feb 25th so I have to wait a bit to try to snag the return seats.
I must say I don't understand why they make this so difficult to do. I have flown on Continental, AA and Delta the last 4 winters to Europe and was able to pick seats at the time of purchase.
thanks for your help....lynda

Just be glad you are not flying BA (AKA Bloody Awful). There you would definitely have to wait till 24 hrs before the flight to book seats (unless you are "special". If you are away from a computer at that time (like at work or on a safari) then it's "pot luck" and good luck.

You can also use www.checkmytrip.com to verify if the seats are confirmed. There's a "view details" link below the itinerary to see seat assignments.

Jules,
so far my seats are not confirmed on the NWA site or the KLM site. If I go back to the Air France site , where I requested the seats, they are there as 'on hold'. But I just tried the checkmytrip.com that Patty provided and my seats show up as confirmed! Thanks Patty!
I plan to wait until I am within the 90 day window of my return flight on Feb 25th and then I will call NWA/KLM and see if I can get a human to verify this for me. I have emailed on this and was told by NWA that since the flights are KLM flights I have to wait until 24 hours to get seats. Not happy with that!
But maybe because they show up on that checkmytrip site they are in the big computer that controls all? hope so!

Lynda & Patty. I too could see my flights on Air France & check my trip but not on NWA. I called NWA yesterday & the lady told me that she could not see any seats for the AMS - JRO leg requested for me (these were the ones I selected on Air France) so I asked her if she could give me some seats, yes she could but different to what I had requested so...I said OK but now I look on NWA & Air France & we have the original seats I requested on Air France confirmed! They also show up on check my trip. So go figure! But it does seem like the Air France method seemed to come through to all so Thanks!
