NWA international

How good is NWA on international flights? Going to Dus next month and return from str back to through Detroit. Never flew NWA...been kind of true to Delta but getting awfully bored with them. Hope the seats are more comfy. Seems Delta squeezes more and more in every year I fly..hmmm....So how is NWA with seats, entertainement, service? Any positive/negative experiences?? Truly appreciate all feedback, thanks

I typically fly Delta or Air France to Europe, but did try NWA last year to Prague. Routing was MCI - DET - AMS - PRG and then back. The flight across the Atlantic to AMS was on a new A330-200, which was quite nice (I was in coach). The return flight was on an old DC 10, so I was very greatful for the upgrade to business class. I prefered Delta's Business Elite to NWA's WBC, but might have changed my tune if I were on newer aircraft. Overall, I was pleased and would not hesitate to fly NWA internationally in the future.

You'll be flying one of 4 daily NW flights DTW-AMS, and all 4 use the new A330-300. From all reports, the configuration is pretty comfortable, with advanced audio/video on-demand even for coach.

Check out seatguru.com. Get rows 10-28 in the front if you can, those have more legroom.

I haven't take those particular flights, but many transatlantic NWA flights are on the newer A330 aircraft, which feature individual entertainment systems in the seatbacks throughout coach. Since both are Skyteam members, you can collect FF miles with your preferred partner. (Northwest's WorldPerks program is flat-out better than Delta's).

Note that some transatlantic Northwest flights are codeshares with KLM and if you are changing planes in Amsterdam, you are probably flying on KLM from that point onward with your inbound and to KLM to AMS on your return.

Thanks everyone, seems like I have been doing things right...rkkwan, my seating is 28 so I guess I've just made the leg room part. And I'll be on the A330 dtw-ams and same on return. Flyboy, the other hops don't matter much since they're just short flights for around hour and a half. It's just the long route that I was concerned about. I swear my back still aches from last years Delta. Not because of weight, but height doesn't help. And just love seatguru.com . Will never do reservations without it again.

Well...now checking on seat 28..seems there are complaints of "strong lavatory odor" and its rated as poor seats.....since there is none available on the flight over in section up to 28 I guess I'll bring my gas mask and risk sitting there. I'll try an upgrade when I get there though. And learn for the next time

Also, it seems row 28 does not recline.

I've heard the NWA has discontinued providing pillows; does this also include international flights?

I'll be on Detroit to Paris in a few weeks. Is anyone familiar with that route; are pillows provided?

Pillows and blankets were provided to all passengers on NWA international flights in the past and I would imagine that continues. (This was the case Feb. 28 CDG-DTW).

I thought I had checked seat guru before booking my NWA/KLM flight from Boston to Amsterdam but when I looked at my etickets I had the dreaded row 28. I logged on to nwa.com and moved my seats up 4 rows. Is there any possiblity of moving up a few more rows to the preferred seats without having elite status?

Chyna - maybe you can switch your seats online also.

Chyna, unless your fare is B or Y you don't stand a change to be upgraded to WBC. I am NW Platinum flying on a B or Y fare and only are succesfull 50% of the time, using miles to upgrade. It was a lot easier when they flew 747.
The WBC in the A333 is about half of the 747.
Casey.

Thanks KYbourbon, unfortunately there wasn't a seat available on the way there but I at least changed one seat up on the way back. Guess my only hope is that the seat next to me stays empty and I can "stretch" out that way. Wouldn't be the first time I had 2 seats for myself.
As far as upgrading, guess I'm gonna bite the bullet and just stay put where I'm at. U C, I'm learning each year something new, this is the 6th year in a row and I'm smarter then the first time....

I have to add to NWA here. Since I'm leaving within 3 weeks I stay pretty close in what's what and so on. So I go and look at my reservations again and notice that besides my arrival time in AWS being now 5 minutes later there was a +1 next to the time (11:20 am). Of course, not thinking, I emailed CS to find out what really means. Their reply back was, besides no answer to the 5 minutes add on, that I'm arriving in AWS at 12:45 pm, and that's what those times and changes stand for. So of course I panicked because my connection is at 12:45 pm. I called (not emailed this time) and after I explained the situation to the girl she started to laugh and asked me to hold a second she had to tell her co-worker this. Then she came back on the line and started laughing again and said that the +1 means one day, not one hour and I had plenty of time for my connecting. She just couldn't get over the CSR and was wondering how many more "funny" phone calls she'll get. In the meantime she explained that every month NW does a check on their flight times and adjust it accordingly, in my case only 5 mins.
Now that I calmed down enough I thought this was funny to share.

Just back from my trip to Paris via Detroit on Northwest in coach. We did indeed use a new A330. The interior did seem newer in a 2 - 4 - 2 configuration with inflight entertainment in the seatbacks. It had video on demand where you could pick from several movies and play-pause-rewind-fast forward during them, also many games (trivia with other people on the plane, video games, etc) and music channels, including a juke box feature where you could create your own playlist.

As far as comfort goes, I have to admit it was my least comfortable flight to Europe in coach. It seemed like a had a little bit less room; even a few extra inches seem to make a difference.

Food and beverage service was okay. Drinks followed by a dinner and then a breakfast on the way over and a snack on the way back. The snack was not very substantial in my opinion, consisting of a small piece of pizza bread and a small cup of rock solid ice cream. An additional small meal would have been appreaciated in leui of this 'snack'.
