Andre..you must have missed the "AIRLINE" show where SW let a person board who did not have a photo ID. One lady complained and questioned their policy. She refused to fly on the same plane as the 'undocumented' traveler. I could hardly believe it either. I thought it was just a SW policy..now I see it is TSA.

Even if the TSA agant and airline are satisfied that the person in question is okay to fly, will the authorities in St. Martin allow this individual to land there and proceed through immigrtation and customs? And as tho OP mentioned, you will have to sweat through this line of questioning again on the return trip. I don't know the answer, just asking. I for one would hate to learn the wrong answer in a foreign country.
I would probably opt to pay the fee to have the ticket changed.

Where I live, there is no requirement for the bride to change her name. In fact it requires a lot of paperwork to do so. Your son's fiancee might want to check whether in fact she really does have to change her name. If not, she can avoid this whole problem by simply doing nothing.

Well, I just want to thank all the responders. You all have been wonderful with your thoughts, experiences, and investigation (awesome, rb_travelerxATyahoo). I think we have finally resolved the issue in this case, at least.
AA has agreed to provide a one-time only name change waiver for the bride. The Catch-22 was that Expedia required AA to authorize the name change but AA required Expedia to change the reservation. I finally found an Expedia customer service rep (Thanks Misty) who was willing to spend about an hour on the phone with various AA representatives coordinating the reservation change with the name change waiver.
Anyway, bottom line; a new ticket has been issued in the bride's maiden name at no charge and the groom is much the wiser.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has had a problem with middle names on airline tickets. My boyfriend's passport has A. as his middle name, but the ticket says Andrew ( which is his middle name, it just doesnt appear in his passport). His first and last names are ok. Do you think this would be a problem? Thanks

lustjoy, I have a problem with my renewal passport. Gov't goofed up. I called the airline I used and they gave me the info I needed. I than called passport office. I need to send my renewal passport back to them with various photocopies of documents to have my passport revised.
Perhaps start with talking to your airline. Passport office # is (tollfree) 1-877-487-2778.
You need to get absolute correct information, not just information from a travel board.
Your friend's problem IMHO however does not sound as confusing as mine is.

Never had a problem. My wife has a hyphenated last name and half of her documents are in her maiden name. So far. all customs agenst and check-in attendants have been reasonable and figured out that she was the same person. Add to the complication, we dont hold the same nationalities. It so far has worked on 3 continents.
