How far out to get best deals for domestic travel?
Do you notice a range of when you can get the best prices on airfares within the US? For example, 3 months out, wait till 6 or 3 weeks before departure?
These are not for "last minute getaways" so I'd want to ensure a seat (i.e., not wait till the weekend before).
For the past few years we have only known that we will be able to travel on relatively short notice. Now that I have the "luxury" of planning a bit further out (for trips to the end of the year), I'm finding myself skittish about when to book.
For example, from Buffalo, when to book a flight for Las Vegas in April, NYC in July, Vancouver Canada in July, etc.
I know it's impossible to predict so I'm just asking, "generally speaking".
I am using kayak and checking regularly, also Farecast Alert but that doesn't do it for all cities and is only for a few weeks out.
Thx for any insights.
Enjoy-la!

Signup with www.airfarewatchdog.com and you'll get daily e-mails listing all the fares between any and all two cities you designate. Once you see a fare that's acceptable to you, book it on the airline site.

AAFrequentFlyer - thx a mint for the link, cool site! I signed up for it.
You can only get fares from your "home" airport, right? I couldn't see a way for it to send alerts btwn 2 cities (e.g., Buffalo and Las Vegas) or does it know to do that if you put BUF in one airport field and Las Vegas in another?

What I did like about this site was the fact that they listed fare rules in simple terms, not the long legal stuff that comes with any cheap fare.
Buy 14 days in adv
The fare good only on Tue, Wed, Thur
Min stay 3 days
Fare good between xx/xx and xx/xx
etc.
so if you liked the fare, you knew what's required to find it.
