Help choosing a carrier...
I am planning a trip to Paris in May of 2003, but am unsure of what airline to bbok the flight with. I have flown Delta from NYC to Rome, but this time I was leaning toward US Air or American - due to more room, entertainment choices, and COST. I will be flying coach, roundtrip. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jason
When all factors are equal,I would choose the(an) airline with multiple flights from my point of departure. That is just incase my flight in either direction were to be cancelled, there would be a backup. You will get reponses from fans of United,AirFrance,Continental, etc who SWEAR by that airline. They have NEVER hada problem nor have they ever encountered any one who did have a problem. The bottom line is what is important to YOU.To me, getting there and getting back is my priority. If the meal is good, the FlightAttendants friendly and efficient, the movie is good, etc etc, fine. But every traveler is different.Bon Voyage
Rocky

Rocky, of course folks will respond based on their experience - that's what this forum is about!
Of all the airlines I've flown to Europe, Continental and KLM were the best. My preferred carrier out of NYC area is Continental both because of their reliabilty and good service and also because Newark airport, their hub, is one of the easiest to get to and get around in once you're there.

I am not as concerned about where the flight originates from as I am the comfort in the sky. I will be departing from Memphis or Nashville. I would really like to hear from people who have recently flown overseas and what they thought of their flight.

On a long flight I want as much legroom as I can get. I think now, American has the most. I have flown coach from NY to London (and from Chicago to Hawaii) on American and found it to be quite comfortable. You can always ask an airline the pitch of the coach seats.

If you live in Memphis, by all means take KLM as they have a non-stop flight to Amsterdam. You might consider getting on a train and riding it down to Paris instead of taking a plane. It's very simple to do. KLM takes good care of its passengers and Schipol is about the easiest airport to use on the planet. Bon voyage.......

My experience with AA has been positive. It is amazing that 2 inches can make such a difference in comfort. You can check their website for the seat width and pitch on various aircraft. I've found the 777's to be as comfortable as you are going to get in coach.

I'd DEFINATELY recommend Continental out of Newark.

The airplanes are new with personal entertainment in coach. And Newark is a better organized less crowded airport.

I used priceline for my trip to Paris in early nov '02. I paid $322 (incl tax) on Continental out of Newark.
Jason
Update! I would wait. Here's why.TIME Mag is reporting that the proposed "alliance"between Delta/Continental/and Northwest may be finalized by the end of December.Supposedly, one of the perks would be the sharing of all frequent flier programs of the 3.It is NOT a done deal and may very well wont be.Secretary Mineta himself is handling this case.IMHO, it would be worth waiting a bit to see if it does fly, what is in it for you.HTH
R
