Guesses on airline fares from west coast to England?

We want to travel to England in June. All the airline fares we are finding from the west coast to the UK are over $1,000. Any guesses as to whether and when the fares may come down. Unfortunately, June, July and August are the only months we can take the trip.

$1000 to 1200 is not unreasonable for that time period. As educators forced to travel in that time period that is the price range we normally pay to fly from Denver.

I would wait until March to book. Last year, people were able to get sales for around $700 to $800. I just saw that AA was selling tickets from New York to London for $299 round trip. Unfortunately, that is for now.

have you looked at www.aerlingus.com, they curretly have a seat sale on, and I just did a quick check NY to London / Manchester via dublin and found flights $850 (per person). A benefit of flying via dublin is immigration takes place there, so you can directly to baggage on arrival.
I'd suggest checking out some of the European carriers, KLM / Air France / Al Italia as well as the standard US carriers, as they can often be good value.

How about responding to the original question -- west coast to England in the summer. A cheap fare from NY to London today has no bearing on a summer fare. We go to Europe most summers in late May and return late June. From the Denver our fares are consistantly in the $1000 range. We have sometimes seen fares in the $800 range but they include two or three stops, long lay-over or other very inconvenient scheduling.

Opps -- hit a wrong button somewhere. To continuing the above posting ---

I think a lot of brain damage can be done seeking that ultimate low fare while trying to save a couple hundred dollars. Scheduling and convenience has some value. There are many more easier ways to save $200 than fussing over airline tickets. Set a buget goal for the tickets, buy them and move on.

There are many more easier ways to save $200 than fussing over airline tickets. Set a buget goal for the tickets, buy them and move on.

Ain't that the truth? A bit of sharpshooting on hotels (e.g. Priceline for a couple of nights) can absolutely smoke airline savings that may or may not materialize. (I habitually trot out old Dirty Harry on this - "Do you feel lucky?&quot

That said, if it were me paying over $1000 for a coach ticket to the UK, I'd sure as h*ll make sure it was for the most comfortable seat going. As it happens (and assuming you have no particular airline loyalties) Air New Zealand seems to be coming up in the low end of the prices for Jun-Aug. for LAX-LHR. That's a good thing because their coach product is probably the best one out there, period.

I would suck it up, book the Air NZ chairs, and go hunting for hotel, car, coupon and other bargains.

Free beer and wine with Air Canada for $1,041. I second Air New Zealand. Well said, Gardyloo!

Difficult dilemma. The problem with waiting for fares to drop is that the better scheduled flights (departure times and nonstops) always book up first. While you may end up with a better fare by waiting, the flight itself could have inconvenient departure or arrival times, or it could be a much longer trip with 1 or more additional stops. At the same time, I can appreciate someone wanting to save $200, particularly if it is a family flying together. The savings could mean an extra day or two in Europe. If the fares are going to drop, it will probably happen in March. However, the airlines are a lot more efficient these days and it may not happen this year. Good luck.

Could you do something like flying JetBlue to JFK, then another carrier from JFK to England? Might save something.

Having paid 1000 euros to fly from Amsterdam to Boston last summer 1000 dollars west coast to London sounds good. Especially if it is a direct flight -you don't want to be adding to the jet lag with transfers.

I live in the Bay Area and fly to visit family in England several times a year. I agree that $1,000- $1,200 is a typical summer fare.

Sometimes flights go down for dates leaving the West Coast for Europe between the second and third week in August so if you could do a late summer jaunt this might save you a couple of hundred dollar each.

Sign up for a fare tracking on travel sites such as travelocity, or keep track for prices for different European destinatioins on a farecompare.com
